Hi,

This is my first post here after discovering this emulator, I think it's a great idea and I've been amazed by the screenshots people have been posting, it's amazing what you guys have done/are doing!

So I'm going to be buying a new computer pretty soon (Within the next month or two atleast), since my previous one died and at the moment I'm using a horrible 11 year old PC... yeah.

The specs on the one I'm going to be buying are:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (3.2Ghz, 6 Cores)
RAM - 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
GPU - ATI Radeon HD4670 512MB GDDR3 (I'm putting this in myself, it's the one I have now)
OS - Windows 7 Home Edition 64-Bit

Overall it's a really nice computer, and is pretty cheap for what it has in it, but I'd like to know what sort of performance I'd be getting out of this on the following games:

The Legend of Zelda - The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
F-Zero GX
Skies of Arcadia
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2

I'll no doubt be discovering more games too, and I would love suggestions, but could anyone tell me what settings I'd be looking at to play these games as best as possible? I'd love to see them in 1080p at 60FPS with full AA etc. on, although I don't think my GPU will allow it until I buy a nicer one...

Thankyou!

Unless you're going to overclock that CPU , 3.2Ghz barely meet the minimum requirement for Wii games (Dolphin mainly uses 2 core , 6 cores are a waste)
And Ati HD 4670 is too weak for 1080p , may slowdown the game speed . So i say 720p + AA 4x or 1080p + no AA

Hmm, is there a way I could distribute it over more than 2 cores? I know that my brother has a quadcore with only 2.5Ghz per core, but he can greatly increase performance of certain games by using a third party program that allows him to share the processing power over all 4 cores giving him more power overall, could the same be done here maybe?

You should wait for bulldozer which is 32nm CPU or get Intel i5 2500k
Sandy Bridge is about 400Mhz faster than old i series
and old i series is about 400Mhz faster than Core 2 duo / Phenom (45nm)

A Sandy Bridge at 3.0Ghz without turbo boost can knock down Core 2 duo / Phenom at 3.8Ghz

Note : Only compare 2 core

Well unfortunately I can't wait any longer than I have to for a more expensive PC of any sort, and this is pretty cheap for how good it is... besides, Dolphin isn't the only thing I'll be using it for, haha, it's just something on the side Smile

But I've been reading too, and apparently the 1090T has a feature called Turbo CORE, where if a program uses less than 3 cores, it will power down 3 of them, and increase the remaining three by up to 400Mhz for a total of 3 cores with 3.6Ghz, I think this sounds like a cool feature to be honest, and maybe it'll help performance of games etc. on Dolphin?

I may end up overclocking it too at one point, but only up to say... 3.5-3.6Ghz, I don't want to do anything too big just yet, and I hear it'll still be stable at these speeds with default cooling...

Is it the same CPU as the one I'll be buying? And I can't really afford a Sandy Bridge one since they're a little out of my price range, and if I did I'd have to find an entirely new computer to put it in, since I doubt it'd fit into an AMD mobo, right?

If you have any of the games on the list and have similar specs to the computer I'll be using, could you post your average FPS maybe? Smile That'd help give me an idea.

And yeah I'll be getting a GPU asap after I get the computer, Nothing too big until I get some real money, something around the £80-100 range, and everthing seems to be pointing towards an ATI Radeon 5770 1024MB GDDR5... my friend has one and it runs most games extremely well, he has an i5 2400 (I think it's that), at 3.1Ghz Quadcore and h can run Dirt 3 with everything on ultra and still get 50-60FPS average, which is really impressive and the game looks gorgeous, lol...

As long as what I'll have can run Gamecube and Wii games above 30FPS I'll be fine, because that's an average framerate for games these days, and anything higher will just be a bonus, lol.

please for the love of god do not get a 5770, i had 2 of these in crossfire and they sucked - get a least a 5830 (seen them for £80) or higher (5850,5870) , do not get 64XX , 65XX, 66XX, 67XX , only get a 6850 or 6870 if you plan on crossfiring as these cards scale better than 58XX and are better at tessellation.

you can get 4ghz easy with that cpu as long as you have good mobo, ram, psu and cpu cooler (STOCK COOLER WILL NOT BE ENOUGH!!!). get a high performance air cooler or somthing like the corsair h50/h70 (i have a h50 and it keeps my cpu at good temps, could be a bit better but i cant be arsed to reapply this thermal compound )
[PGP] "per game" emulator settings
pfff, i can clock higher with frozen camel piss!!!!!

Well I'm not planning on crossfiring anyway, and how much better is the 5830 over the 5770? Is there actually a big difference between them? I mean, if the price is similar then I'll obviously go for the 5830 but I've not really heard much about it, haha.

And could you maybe point me to a good air cooler? How much are they in general? Because I'd love to overclock as high as possible but I don't want it damaging anything, I'd probably stick to lower just to be safe, but hey it's always nice to try it out and see how big the increase is, lol...
