I was surprised that nobody had made an HD texture pack for Wii Sports, so I went ahead and decided to try making a custom texture pack myself. I only recreated the UI elements (fonts, buttons, windows, etc), since the 3D textures in the game looked okay at higher resolutions (in Wii Sports you generally can't move around in space so it's rare to see a texture up close). However, I'm including the PSD files I made for the UI textures, in case anyone else would like to build upon what I've done (I'm happy to fix issues (please let me know if you find any), but in case I'm not around in a few years hopefully the PSD files will help out).
Texture Pack Status
- Current version is: v1.0
- Texture format is in PNG, but PSDs are available if you'd like to remix what I've done (you have permission to remix this and reupload, but please give credit. Thanks!)
- The textures are provided in a ZIP file (download links are below). To install, open Dolphin and choose [p]Tools > Resource Pack Manager[/p]. Click on [p]Open Directory...[/p] and drop the ZIP file you downloaded into the window that appears. Choose Refresh, and click on the Wii Sports 4K texture pack and choose [p]Install[/p].
- Supported Wii Sports versions: NTSC-U (RSPE01). I don't have a PAL version to test, but it's likely that will work too.
- This pack also mostly works for the classic Wii Sports section built into Wii Sports Resort.
Known Issues
- The four light boxes next to each player (that represent the lights on the Wii remote indicating what player you are) are blurry and I couldn't find them among the dumped textures. I suspect they are supplied by the system (like how Miis don't show up in the texture list either), but I might have overlooked something. If you know what texture this is, please let me know!
- Some fonts are clipped off or are misaligned.
- Some dialog windows (especially the one with the black background, visible when creating a new profile) are blurry. I couldn't find a texture for these on first glance, but I'll look into it further.
Progress list
- Health And Safety: 100%
- Fonts: 90% (Some font sections (esp. for outlined or bold variants) don't look like they're being used or dumped. I'll keep a lookout, but if you find a font file I couldn't, please PM me that file and I'll be sure to include it)
- Intro Screen: 100%
- Tennis: 100%
- Baseball: 100%
- Bowling: 100%
- Golf: 100%
- Boxing: 100%
- Training: 100%
- Fitness: 60%
Next Update
- Possible upscaling of 3D textures using ESRGAN
- Possible Wii Sports Resort remaster
- Fixed fonts being clipped off/not aligned with baseline
