I just wanted to note some things that I noticed when booting my WiiOS in Dolphin.

Version used: 3.3U

Emulation State: In-game, other issues

I noticed several things. Even though my WiiOS is "installed" in Dolphin, I can't return to it from a game. Dolphin emits a panic, and then locks up rather than loading and running the title. However, when I use the Wii Menu button and attempt to do this anyway, I can then immediately run my System Menu (using the .wad I created of it) and instead of displaying the health and safety warning, it behaves as though I just exited a game and goes straight to the menu. So it seems that Dolphin is *almost* doing this right.

The settings menu crashes immediately upon loading. The data menu seems to be working alright, but none of the save files actually show up on the Wii side. The GC memory cards work great, and it makes for a nice graphical memory card manager.

The Disc channel, naturally, works fine. That is to say, since there's no way to tell dolphin that a disc is in the slot when you load a title other than a disc, it behaves as though the disc slot is empty. If the WiiOS were ever directly bootable in a normal fashion (as in, if there were an option when loading a disc to boot the menu first) I would expect the disc channel to actually show the banner for the disc.

As far as I can tell, the menu is *working* just fine, all things considered. But of course, in order for it to be considered proper, it needs to be able to see the rest of the system. At the very least, I'd say it should be able to detect and launch the other channels that are installed on the Nand. That would make it a lot easier to launch my channels that I know are installed.

In fact, to be honest, it seems that the only real "bug" in the wiiOS is that it cannot read the NAND, since it seems to be able to tell everything else about the system.

Anyone else having more luck than I am? Post away.

Yeah, I have tested some other things about this load sys menu. If you rename any of the titles you have installed as 00000002 and put it in the 00000001 folder, then dolphin is able to launch that title, as if it were the system menu. One other thing I have notice is that the mac address supplied by dolphin is all 0x00, as such, editing any mii's (by launch mii channel as sys menu) created on your main wii is impossible, unless you edit the data file the mii's are contained in to that all 0x00 mac address.

A title however, will read its save data from the location it was originally programmed for, like world of goo reads its data from 00010001/57474f45/data, rather than 00000001/00000002/data. So, it seems that it can read the nand, but dolphin seems to be not allowing the tmd of one title to read any other title directories, not even for system menu.

I am currently running 4.0U in dolphin, sys menu wise.

I actually tried this a number of times (with almost all of my titles) trying to get my channels to load, but they simply wouldn't do it. Dolphin hangs every time for some reason, while loading those same titles converted to .wad format works just fine. It's odd, since I've read so many reports from others about being able to do this.

In any case, doesn't the System Menu install a superuser ticker right before it loads that essentially gives it rights to all of the channels? (Or is this just a homebrew thing?) If so, perhaps Dolphin isn't emulating that correctly? I wasn't aware that Dolphin even had permissions built in like that, although I suppose it makes sense if they're emulating the IOS system accurately.

It could also me much simpler than that. The IOS system has a number of functions that are used to list installed titles, which I'm sure the sysmenu uses, but almost nothing else does, so it wouldn't affect emulation of anything but the system menu and thus wouldn't need to be implemented. If only I was more experienced with the project's source code, I might go have a look at the IOS emulation myself to see if I could track some of this stuff down.
