Hello All,
the release notes for Dolphin 5.0 state that "On the Wiimote side, DolphinBar support brings ease of use to Wii Remotes" Which is true, and they work great to connect the The RVL-CNT-01-TR Wii Remote Plus. But then at the end of the paragraph, it says, "Even more, users on Windows 8 and Windows 10 can connect Wiimotion Plus Wiimotes without any kind of special setup!" So is the dolphinbar not needed at all (assuming one has Win 8 or 10 and Dolphin 5.0) ? Any clarification would be appreciated!

If all you want is to use a -tr wiimote on windows 8+ then yes (assuming you have a bluetooth adapter ofc)

You will need a sensor bar in order to use the pointer feature. That doesn't necessarily have to be a DolphinBar (which is a sensor bar combined with a Bluetooth adapter).

so it works out of the box, per se... however I have to manually go into my devices and pair and connect? And it also doesn't remember the pairings... is that correct?

The Dolphinbar really helps with the non-TR remotes with Dolphin v5. You go to Mode 4 on the bar and connect your non-TR WiiMote to it. You set Dolphin to Real WiiMote (with continuous scanning, etc), click Refresh, and bam...You're WiiMote is connected.

However, if you have a TR WiiMote (Nintendo's latest generation of them), and running Windows (8 | 8.1 | 10), you don't really need the Dolphinbar...although you still can. Those TR remotes connect to Windows easily followed by Dolphin v5 recognizing them as inputs and using them as Real WiiMotes. Obviously, you'll lose out on the sensor bar/pointing if you don't use the Dolphinbar, but I believe at that point you'll just use the mouse on your computer to play that part.

So for the Dolphinbar and any type of WiiMotes (Dolphin v5 is closed):
1. Connect Dolphinbar to USB, install drivers, etc (follow their instructions)
2. Follow the instructions to pair your WiiMote to the bar.
3. Switch to Mode 4. From this point on, your WiiMote will remember to connect to the Dolphinbar, and the bar will remember to stay in Mode 4.
4. Power off your WiiMote
5. Start Dolphin v5
6. Power on your WiiMote, wait for the buzz to signify you're connected.
7. ???
8. Profit.

The above works for me every time. You can cut out the power off/on and starting Dolphin cycle with the following:

1. Dolphin v5 is already started.... WiiMote is turned on, but not connected (Dolphin v5 doesn't recognize it)
2. Within Dolphin v5, go to Controllers, make sure it is set to Real WiiMote, click Refresh.
3. Remote should now be connected.
(Just to note, the continuous scanning really only ensures that an already connected WiiMote that is still powered on is reconnected when it goes to sleep gets reconnected)

I hope all this information helps, cause it all worked for me.
