Wiimote pointer not detected

hello, can anyone help me on this problem? i've built one of those usb diy sensor bar. i used a pair of 2 leds on each side, and the distance from middle of the left pair to the right pair measures 7.5 inches. i tried playing animal crossing city folk and when it came to the part where i could change the date, well, i can't see the wiimote's hand pointer on the monitor screen. could this be 'cause my diy sensor is missing something? or a wrong setting in dolphin? i'm using revisions 4771 and 5038, both have the same issue....
