Wiimote issue in Metroid Prime 3 with PS4 controller

I've been mostly doing ok with the settings as is and using DS4windows, but I just got to a point in the fire temple in Bryyo where you have to quickly pump a handle to get these four things to pop up and the most I've been able to get is two because the remote goes haywire and does it too slowly most of the time. I can't figure out which thing to change or what buttons to configure in order to get it to work.
