I just set up mine yesterday... just paired it with my PC. I can confirm it connects automatically to Bluetooth.
However, you do need to go into the controller configuration every time and refresh it (every time it disconnects from Bluetooth).
It auto-disconnects if left for 10 minutes, I think. I didn't measure it, but left Zelda running while I fed the cat, and the controller was off when I came back.
