Wiim Mario Kart Fun not working

I've installed the 2022 version Mario Kart Fun before, but for some reason I can't get through create-images.bat. After I click 'U' for the game language, the program just closes and opens a few times before quitting.

I checked in task manager, and it seems that bash.exe is still running in the background. The _log folder is also empty. Is there anything I can do to make it work?

Update: I haven't been able to find the issue, but I was able to get around it by using a virtual machine. My uneducated guess is that some mkwii-related software I already have on my laptop is interfering with the process. If anyone knows what's going on, I'd appreciate your input. ?
