I need help with two problems with Fatal Frame 4:

-At the moment i'm using dolphin-master-4.0-9327-x64. On game start all i can see is the black screen. It never happened to me before.
I can still play it without problems on Dolphin-win-x64-v3.0-409, but...

-Recently i started new game and strangely i cannot pass the very first ghost battle. It won't die, doesn't matter how many photos i shoot.

I hope you guys can help me with it.
Thanks in advance

Cheers Smile

I'm having the same issue as well. I'm using the Eng patched FF4 and it works in the final version revisions of 3.0 and 3.5. Once I downloaded 4.0.9507 or 5.0.116, it just loads the game with a black screen. Anyone have a solution or know of this issue? 4.0 and up is when the dolphin .exe icon changed as well.

Which configuration do you recommend for just keyboard and mouse?

I've been having a problem that seems to be gamebreaking, but can't seem to find any information on it. Maybe someone else will have heard of it...

The problem: When playing as Choushiro in Chapter 7, the spirit stone flashlight can't take psychic photographs (the blue glows on the compass and in front of potential targets). Since he needs to take a psychic photograph of the gate switch in order to know where to turn the power on, he can't progress. I've tried Dolphin 4.0 and 5.0, different angles/distances, restarting a fresh game from chapter 1, and a few other things, but no luck.

Does this problem not appear in older versions of Dolphin? Should I try running an older build to see if that helps any?

Water, did you apply movement of the camera/light to your mouse movement? If yes, how do you make the light not go back to the center, once you stop moving the mouse?

I'm not familiar with this game, but you could try disabling Skip EFB Access from CPU or Store EFB Copies to Texture Only.

@Arthur: I did not use the mouse, I've been using an Xbox 360 controller (wired). Testing with both mouse and controller, I don't think there's any real way to properly emulate the wiimote so that the view doesn't auto-center when not receiving new input. (Which makes aiming at ghosts slightly above or below the center of the screen really annoying...) Not sure if there's a great workaround for mouse, but having a steady thumb on the thumbstick of a controller can keep the input present, though it can be difficult since the aim updates constantly (unlike in the PS2/Xbox games, where aim remains stationary when the thumbstick is in the center).

@JosJuice: Maybe I should try it in 5.0, but it doesn't help in 4.0. Messing with those settings either did nothing noticable or caused the entire screen to go white (probably related to the film grain-esque overlay on the graphics).

Side note: The blue glows for psycic photograph spots that are in all of the other Fatal Frame games I've played (not sure about this one since I'm emulating) simply don't appear for any character under my current settings, but for some reason it's only Choushiro that can't photograph the spots anyway. Every character with a normal camera still gets the blue ring when aiming at the spots and can still take the photos. Judging by a playthrough video I watched, I think the photo is supposed to take automatically for Choushiro (like when shooting wandering ghosts), but he just won't register the spot from any angle/distance.

At this point, I'm starting to think it might be a corrupt ISO, since the problem shouldn't exist simply from a graphics emulation glitch. Maybe the ISO is telling me to import a Japanese Wii...

The options are named differently in 4.0. The equivalent of disabling "Store EFB Copies to Texture Only" is to set EFB Copies to RAM. Disabling EFB Copies entirely will cause a whole lot of problems.

Are you playing with a emulated Wiimote? The game was obviously made with motion controls in mind (at least i think so controls are a total clusterfuck unfortunately....)so it's likely a bit harder with an emulated Wiimote.

Make sure you have Antialiasing turned off in Dolphin, it breaks the piano.
