Sorry, I meant that on my machine, specifically, 4.0.2 is inferior to the 3.5-X builds I used to use. I don't know what all the fixes are that have gone in at this point since last year, but something changed to make it much harder for me to find optimal settings.

Are you trying to force AA through Nvidia's drivers? AFAIK, this can cause you some problems due to the way the drivers try to apply the AA. This happens to me too on Linux, and it recreates exactly what you've described.

If that's not the source of your issue, try the very latest versions of Dolphin and use the latest drivers provided by Nvidia.

hey thanks,, simply update to the latest nvidia driver. Its working now

It would help me narrow down whether it's the 4.0.2 build that's giving me issues, or if maybe my GPU is a bottleneck with the graphics settings I'm running... though it ran everything perfectly smooth with the 3.5-X builds.

I can't be bothered to post a screenshot, so:
Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Backend: OpenGL
Res: 3x native, AA: 4x, AF: 16x, Scaled EFB, Per-pixel lighting, Widescreen Hack (which is probably left on from some other game I played and then never turned off XD)
Hacks: Ignore formate changes, EFB to texture, texture cache fast, EFB disabled, OpenMP texture decoder
Advanced: Load Custom Textures (using the HD pack, of course)

General: enablde dual core, enable idle skipping, Audio: HLE, DSound.

Not using VSync.

My GPU is a GTX 680 BTW. I don't think it's OCed.

Currently I'm using 4.0-928, recently having updated from 4.0-865, and before that I was using 4.0-660. I don't think I played on older builds, though if you want I can test on some others (and/or 4.0.2 itself).

Edit: but see my post near the end of the last page: I do get random slowdowns to 20 FPS, caused not by inability to run fullspeed but by weird framelimit problems. Changing framelimit to off or some random value and then back to Audio usually lets it get back up to 30 immediately.

Thanks for posting your settings, it was actually pretty helpful.

I have some news for anyone who's interested. I've figured out what the main problem was for me, which was my Internal Resolution was too high for my GPU, at 4X. I then lowered it to 3, and then 2, and found that I was still getting slight lag spikes and audio skips. It played smooth at 1X, but then why bother play fullscreen on a monitor if it's going to look fuzzy?

I went back to my 3.5x64 build to see what settings I was using there.. I noticed that I was using Direct3D9 for the video. I then went back to 4.0.2 and switched video to Direct3D9 from OpenGL and was now able to play at 100% speed with NO skips or lag spikes at 4X video. In order to play flawlessly with 4X AA and 16X AF, I had to decrease IR to 2X, but now it looks and plays beautifully.

I played through the entire intro + tutorial battle with zero audio skips, and only slight FPS drops which don't bother me too much. It's the audio skips that drive me crazy.

what's the difference between applying this patch and set the VPS limit to 60 (30FPS) in the game config?

That also makes everything in the game run 20% faster than it's supposed to. The 30 fps patch just makes the game render 20% more frames.

I need some help with the 30fps patch. The program always says "unable to open specified image file" when I try to apply the patch. I tried moving the iso to a different PC running XP and it still happened. I even tried opening it up in WiiScrubber to see if I could alter the iso there and it caused a huge string of error messages. According to Dolphin's utility, the dump integrity is fine.

I'm not willing to do the framelimit to 60 trick, since that badly changes the pitch of the audio. Any ideas of what's going wrong? I've searched this thread and other forums and have seen a few others with the same problem, but no solution.

I'm thinking of getting the 21.5 inch iMac desktop with the following stats. Would I be able to run Xenoblade at max settings? I believe the CPU is enough (I was able to max this game with a mobile CPU 3610 i7 2.3-3.3 ghz), and I know emulating is very CPU intensive. But I'm a bit concerned about the graphics card. The only way I can get a better card in my iMac is to go up to the 27" model, but that's too big for me. Any advice would be greatly appeciated. Thanks!

2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB (two 4GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 1GB

What do you mean by "max settings"? Just to let you know, that's incredibly vague, especially since Dolphin has many settings. If you're talking strictly about graphical enhancements, again, what do you mean?

The "max" or most demanding settings you can set in Dolphin (with respect to just Internal Resolution and Anti-Aliasing) would be 4x IR and 4xSSAA. That's equivalent to having your GPU render the game at 8x the Wii's native resolution. Very few GPUs can manage this in a number of games, and fewer can manage with jumping to 5x IR + 4xSSAA or 4xIR + 9xSSAA (using something like Nvidia Inspector). So what does "max" mean? What Internal Resolution? What level of Anti-Aliasing?

Additionally, what is the exact model number of the i5 in that iMac? In all honesty, anything from Sandy Bridge to Haswell at 2.9GHz to 3.3GHz should run this game comfortably (at least on 4.0). The 750M shouldn't have trouble doing 4x IR + some AA, or 3x IR + even more AA.
