Even following the guide, I get like as low as 25FPS in the first battle, and as low as 17FPS in the cutscene after it. In 3.0 custom builds and whatnot, I got full FPS. What am I missing?

What guide are you talking about? Additionally, which revision of Dolphin are you using?

For me, most of the slowdowns seems linked to Framelimit options. Yeah, I know, I keep saying the same things over an over again about this game, but I'm serious: setting the Framelimit to Auto and unchecking Limit by FPS works absolute wonders for me. It may work for you as well, or you could have to fiddle around with it to see which settings are better (for some reason, it's not consistent for every user). Aside from that, try comparing what the game runs like with VSync and without.

Lastly, if you are using 4.0.x, use OpenGL with the Vertex Streaming Hack. If you're using the latest revisions, use OpenGL with the latest drivers from Nvidia.

Yeah. I'm using 4.02 and the Wiki guide that is.

And by default it's set to auto / nothing checked, so it wasn't a problem. Older revisions ran the game faster...but I guess as emulation gets more accurate, speed goes down. Ah well, one can't expect to play one of the most demanding Wii games without issue.

See, this is the part that confuses me. Without VSync, the lowest I drop to is 28, with it I rarely drop to 24 at the most. But I'm OCed much less than you are (just 500MHz above stock) and I've got a weaker GPU (only run this game at 3x IR with no AA, though I can use 8xMSAA comfortably). So I just don't know what else to say about your performance. This game is basically perfect in Dolphin on my end. Linux magic? I dunno.

I'm running Slackware on this machine in my profile (and just about every computer I own atm). Fwiw I'm running it off of an HDD right now (probably 7200 RPM, but I haven't checked) without issue, and disc access usually doesn't play such a dramatic role in performance (at least not great enough to account for the difference in my speed and Mkilbride's). Not having run Windows for a long time, I'm not confident to say it's something dumb Windows is doing that Linux isn't, but one never knows until one looks into it.

Sorry to add fuel to the 74-page fire here on this game.

Check my sig for the relevant specs in my computer. Xenoblade Chronicles (and Samurai Warriors 3) are slow, stuttery, laggy, and completely unplayable on my computer. XBC in particular is horrific in battle scenes, with sometimes 2-3 seconds of lag and audio skipping. Process Explorer shows that not even 30% of my CPU is in use, and less than 30% of my RAM is in use. Power isn't the issue here. Let me go ahead and tell you what settings I have in Dolphin:

Config:
Framelimit: Auto, Limit by FPS unchecked.
JIT Recompiler
DSP HLE emulation

Graphics:
Direct3D11, all else unchecked.
Internal Resolution: Auto (Window Size)
AA off, Aniso: 1x, Scaled EFB Copy checked
Hacks tab all set to defaults
Advanced tab all unchecked.

What I've tried: Switching to OpenGL, every Framelimit setting under the sun, DSP LLE, JITIL Recompiler, Native 1x internal resolution.

Literally no change with any of those settings. No improvement or decline.

Any help with this?

Having just gotten an SSD, I tested this. It does help ...some. It still does it, but it's not as bad. But it only works if Dolphin, Dolphin's cache (global user directory) and the game are all on the SSD.

The end all solution is mainly to just use OpenGL to minimize it, and build up a cache. The combination makes the stutters pretty infrequent in general play.

I have been trying to run Xenoblade pal with Dolphin 4.0 on a pc with these specs:

CPU: AMD 6100 fx 6 cores
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 550 ti
MOBO: Asus M5A88-v evo
RAM: DDR3 16GB

but the game is unplayable due to a low and unstable frame rate.

I already know how to setup Dolphin with the correct settings and I already know that my main problem is the kind of cpu I have (his architecture is not good for emulation).

I tried to run the game on my brother's pc which has an intel based system (cpu i5) and it runs smoothly also at the highest resolution.

My question is, what AMD processor to overclok can I buy to get near the i5 performance (I do not want to change my pc completely for just one game)?

I was looking at this cpu: CPU AMD PHENOM II X4 945 3.0 GHZ

Someone has experience with this cpu?
Otherwise, what amd cpu would you suggest?

Since I am content with the 25fps of the pal version maybe is possible to mitigate the difference with an intel processor in some way...
