I see nothing wrong with your settings, so you're good there. My only suggestion would be to use OpenGL with the latest development build and be sure to update your Nvidia drivers. Failing that, stick with 4.0.2 if the latest doesn't give you any speedups, and try OpenGL with the Vertex Streaming Hack enabled.

No settings will fix your hardware being too goddamn weak for the game.

SO how is emulation of this coming along?

I've been wanting to play since early 2012, but the performance / bugs just weren't there yet, so I felt I could wait til it was a mostly stable time.

This isn't a 10-12 hour game, that is why I waited, I've read it's a 100+ hour game, hence my desire to not paly 50 hours, then encounter some terrible bug.

If you just want to play the game, my best advice would be to stop wasting your time and playing the game on an actual console. That's cheaper than getting the hardware required to play the game with Dolphin, and it actually supports the people who make such games possible to begin with.

Well, given that he already has adequate hardware, it probably isn't an issue about getting this game to run smoothly. I'm at 3.8 GHz, and I can run this game just fine. His 2500K shouldn't have any trouble as long as no dumb settings are used.

About how the game runs, it's pretty much perfect, and leagues better than things were in 2012. No more random crashes. No more audio issues. No more crappy patched builds. Aside from setting your Framelimit to Auto and disabling Limit by FPS, the default settings play this game without issues for the most part. The only things that are not 100% are the save menu screenshots (needs EFB2RAM) and the bloom effects are off (not greatly noticeable). Other than that, runs almost as well as on a Wii in my experience.

Glad to hear it.

As for why I didn't play it on Wii.

Well, I have this great PC, and instead of playing sub 720p, with random FPS dips to 10(Check out the topics about that if you google, on the Wii), if I can run it better on PC, i.e, looking better, use my favorite controller(DS4), and it runs better, then of course I'll do PC.

Plus, I absolutely love save-states. I could deal with losing a 40 minute boss battle and repeating it when I was 12 years old, but @ 24, I now lose all desire to play the game.

So - I love the way that this game looks on Dolphin with the HD Texture pack, but for the life of me - I cannot get it running smoothly. Most the time it is 30 fps ... but ...

My main issue is that when I go into battle the game drops 4-5 fps. During events like the one in Colony 9 - going into battle can drop around 10 fps.

I've tried many settings in both D3D9 and OpenGL (including the Vertex Hack Shonumi mentioned). With and without the Load External-HD Textures. I also have tried some of the production builds. I saw 4.0-330 mentioned as a "fix" for the frame-rate drop in battle, but it actually seemed like it all around was worse for me - popping sound and slowdown. I also tried a fairly recent version 4.0-720 and that was even worse.

So for now I'm sticking with 4.0.2. For the most part, OpenGL and D3D9 seem to act the same. One exception, while running OpenGL, is that when I go into Tephra cave I drop to 15 fps and it never comes back unless I leave the cave - while with D3D9 I don't suffer this problem in the cave.

It seems like high or low resolutions or various graphical settings have very little impact on my frame rate (except AA will kill the framerate). My guess is that this is not a graphic card issue, but probably a hard drive or sound card issue (I do not have a dedicated sound card, but an onboard one). BUT, I wanted to see what you guys thought.

My settings now are:
General Settings
- Enable Dual Core
- Enable Idle Skipping
- Framelimit - Auto (limit by fps is unchecked)
- JIT Recompiler

Graphics -
General
OpenGL or D3D9
1920x1080 / Auto Aspect Ratio / Use fullscreen
Enhancements
Internal Res - 3x Native
AA - None
AF - 1x
Scaled EFB Copy On
Per Pixel Lighting Off (I had read to turn this on, but my experience seems that this is slightly better off)
Disable Fog Off (I haven't seemed to get better results with this On or Off - so I've left it Off)
--everything else unchecked
Hacks
Ignore Format Changes checked
EFB Copies - RAM / Enable Cache
Texture Cache - Accuracy Fast
EFB - Virtual
Other - Open CL and Open MP checked (Vertex Stream Hack checked when OpenGL)
--everything else unchecked
Advanced
Load Custom Textures
--everything else unchecked

Audio
DSP HLE emulation
Dolby Pro Logic II decoder
Audio Backend OpenAL
Latency 4 - (I've tried all the way up to 13 OMG - and it didn't seem to help the battle slowdown)

Thanks to anyone interested in replying.

Yeah, see there's still this misconception going around the XBC needs super-beefy hardware to run. Nobody listens to me; hopefully you'll be a bit more persuasive :p
