I originally posted a thread for this on PCSX2 forums a few months ago. Not sure why I didn't post this here, since technically it belongs here more than PS2 forums...
Anyways, I have an HTPC setup and wireless range was an issue for me, as was having wires everywhere, so I set out to make this mod with a wii USB sensor bar. All parts from eBay. Basically, was two usb sensor bars, as I needed the extra "windows" to merge into one bar. USB hub was less than $3, from eBay as well.
Its a quick and dirty job, and upon close inspection, rather ugly. But since this sits on top of my TV, and from a distance, it actually looks really good from afar. Looks like a regular sensor bar, just with two extra windows. I have two Bluetooth adapters, and a Logitech adapter as well. The two Bluetooth adapters are so I can have my wireless PS3 controllers, and any other Bluetooth devices on another adapter (wii remotes). I ended up having to butcher the adapters themselves a bit, because the wii sensor bar is so slim. If it was only just an extra millimeter or two thick, they would have fit nicely, but honestly since there's so little room, the snug & right fit helps to hold the USB hub inside.
Again, its a quick and dirty mod. I think the pics speak for themselves on what exactly was done to put this together. Down the road, I would like to make another attempt at this and flesh out a much more solid, higher quality version of it, but once set up on my tv, I've had no issues since. I would also like to try soldering the ir emitters to the USB hub power itself, if it would still allow for enough power as obviously, this mod is intended for low power devices. I have one extra empty usb slot for another low power USB adapter if I ever need it.
Because of this mod, it allows the sensor bar and USB to be all in one. It also sits on top of my TV, which sits high enough to give a straight signal to my wireless devices, reducing obstruction from objects that may have been in the way if it was lower. I just wanted to share in case anyone else needed some ideas for a similar issue, as for me, I was having range & reception issues with my USB adapters plugged in back of my HTPC.
Let me know what you guys think.
