If you knew what you were doing, there would be no 'in this situation'. XBox controllers work better than any other mainstream gamepad for Dolphin, as long as they're set up properly.
OS: Windows 10 64 bit Professional
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900X
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Radeon Vega 56

Uh, no? If you need to use both the joystick and dpad at the same time, ps controllers are objectively the best (or any other with the joystick on bottom). With an x360 controller you need to either use your pointer finger on the joystick, which is uncomfortable, and really imprecise, or cross your pointer finger across the controller, which gives you more precision, but is incredibly awkward to do. With a ps controller, you just move your pointer finger down to the dpad, and leave your thumb on the joystick.

For any other time, both are more or less equal. You're just being silly if you think either is significantly better than the other. It's purely a matter of preference which is (slightly) better.

Sorry about my earlier statement. Anyway I'll agree with you using one of the joysticks in place of the pointer is awkward and is frankly a pain in the butt. The PS3 controller is marginally better however if you need to use the Wii's pointer for some reason, but want to use a controller I strongly advise you or anyone for that matter to simply use the mouse in conjunction with the controller.

Why the hell would anyone do the claw on a game that isn't on the PSP? That's why PS3 controllers have two analog sticks! And if you have to press the dpad momentarily you just move your thumb to the dpad, press it, and move back to the analog stick.

There are a number of games where you can (or have to) use both joysticks simultaneously, while the D-Pad serves for extra functionality not available for the joysticks or where the developers decided the second analong stick should be useless altogether. It makes a difference in Xenoblade Chronicles, where character movement and camera angle are tied to the stick, but the D-Pad selects attacks. Positioning is important in battles, and it's very helpful to be able to move character and camera while selecting your next attack.

Personally, I greatly favor PS style controllers because of this (I also like having my thumbs in the same position for each joystick).

I don't see why people like it - to be honest. Whenever I hold it I feel like I'm holding it the wrong way, but when I hold my Xbox 360 controller it fits properly like it should. I guess it is more personal preference than anything.

Just about everything here boils down to personal preference or opinion. Even the previous statement is an opinion. Big Grin

I grew up with a PS1 and PS2, and until '08, I never owned any XBOX system (though I played my friends). I can deal with the 360 controller and I've done so for hundreds of hours of gameplay. Nevertheless, my Logitech Dual Action USB gamepad is PS style, and this joypad is, well, a joy (bad joke...) I often like to use the D-Pad when emulating systems that didn't have a joystick, and I dislike having left thumb on a different level than the right; it's somewhat awkward. Strangely, I don't think it's awkward to use the left joystick and operate the buttons (in which case the thumbs would be on different levels anyway). At any rate, guess I'm just a big fan of symmetry with controllers.

Right joystick for camera, left for movement, dpad for menus. Xenoblade, as mentioned, is a good example where this is done regularly. Demon's souls is another where you may need to use all three at once, since the game doesn't pause ever, and you may need to change armor while running from enemies. Basically any game that allows you to move while navigating menus will sometimes require you to use both joysticks and the dpad all at once.

... more off topic please, guys.

To anyone who comes across this thread via search function: There is no Wii U emulation available at the present and there won't be anytime soon. This will hold true for the next few years, so you might as well just don't create another crappy thread about it. If you really insist on it, at least show the decency to check if the console has been hacked at all by the time (if it has not been hacked at that point, you can assume there still is no Wii U emulator).

And, in any case, Dolphin will never support Wii U emulation.

That's all there is to say about it, closed.
