Wii U controller adapter - wrong button mapping

Hi Forum, new user, tried search so apologies if this is a dupe.

I've got a cheap imitation "GameCube Controller Adapter For WiiU & PC" from AliExpress.

I've done the driver swap thing via Zadig as described in the wiki, and in Dolphin I select "GameCube Adapter for Wii U".
In the "Configure" window, I see "Adapter Detected" (check rumble, uncheck Bongos).

It works 95% in game.

The problem:
When you fully pull the R trigger, the game registers a Z button press.
When you fully pull the L trigger, the game registers as R trigger.
There is no way to get the game to see an L trigger button.
Z button has no effect.

The analog part of the triggers seems correct (verified for the right trigger at least)

Any ideas? Is it a bug in my cheap adapter? Is there any way to re-map the controls when using Wii U adapter?

The adapter also has a "PC" mode (small switch on the adapter to choose Wii U or PC). In this mode, controllers appear as standard game devices in Windows, and all inputs work fine in that mode, but the rumble doesn't work (rumble works perfectly in Wii U mode).

I am using a genuine Nintendo Gamecube controller (DOL-003).

Can you map the LR buttons to a key press (using xpadder or something) then telling the gcpad to use those key presses for whatever you want LR trigger to do in dolphin?

I don't think so.

When the USB adapter is in "Wii U" mode, the controllers don't show up as normal game controllers to Windows.
Furthermore, Dolphin offers no options to change controls when using GameCube adapter mode.

This is exactly what's happening to me.   @abb, did you ever figure this one out?

R button  push is registering as Z button for me.  Z button does nothing.

Using the generic GameCube Controller Adapter in "WiiU" mode  on OSX.  (Have installed the proper kext file).

I don't mind using in regular mode and mapping controllers, but when trying to do this with more than one controller, it doesn't work because they devices don't show up as separate inputs (/0 /1 /2 etc.).  It always show up as /0

If this is happening even in Wii U mode, then this is likely a broken/buggy adapter. Not Dolphin's fault.
