Its not really a matter of if, but when it can finally be modded in some way to install CFW. The system already has support for Wii and GC games, correct? I know it can run Wii games directly, and I believe there is propriety coding in place for GC support, similar to how PSP can run PS1. And it would be more than adequate to run anything PS1 gen or older with homebrew emulators. What do you all think about the possibility of the Wii-U being the best console system to emulate other systems? I don't even think the PS4 is powerful enough to emulate Wii, or PS2 with homebrew emulators. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Wii-U as a potential emulation device?

Only speculation until it gets properly hacked and full access to all hardware is given.

No doubt its 100% speculation, but we all know that eventually the hackers end up winning at some point.

Will not happen if the hackers decide to become a second tier of jailmasters like MrBeanhead plans to.

To try and shed some light on your actual question:

I know it can run Wii games directly, and I believe there is propriety coding in place for GC supportAs I understand it, when a Wii U runs a Wii game, it throttles back the hardware to be basically a Wii (similar to how the Wii ran GC games). This virtual Wii can then load the Homebrew Channel to load GameCube backups. The "emulated" games from installing a CFW is just using that engine (I think), unless you're running an actual PSX emulator. The WiiU already has the hardware to run Wii/GC games without emulation. It's far too slow to do PS2 emulation. That leaves it in a similar position to most other modern consoles emulation wise (anything up to 5th gen assuming enough development work is put in).
There is no way the PS4s shitty jaguar cores would be able to handle Wii/GC/PS2 emulation so it would be in a similar position as well. Again this is assuming that it gets hacked and then somebody does the work since emulators don't pop out of thin air. Considering most of us have PCs that can already handle 5th gen emulation just fine I don't really see the point in using these consoles as emulators if or when it happens.

Unless the PS4's cpu is weaker then the PS3's cpu then yes it can do those just fine. The PS3s without PS2 internals can do software emulation just fine. 10-16-2014, 02:07 PM

Also, not all PS2 games run great, many have a lot of glitches, and plus the PS4 has a horribly underpowered cpu. It's using 2 quad core cpus stuck on one die IIRC and those cpus are based on the same architecture as the cpus in the $200 laptops from walmart.(10-16-2014, 03:44 AM)NaturalViolence Wrote: The WiiU already has the hardware to run Wii/GC games without emulation. Those glitches aren't because of hardware though. That's because those games weren't even made to be played in that emulator. Still there a lot that work with only minor glitches.
