Those textures are for the Gamecube version. Which actually makes it all the more impressive...

No. This is for the WII version. Tested & work great. See the picture in my attachment.

Actually I've finished downloading the pack now and it looks like the textures are for the Wii version after all.

As soon as my bobber goes down I hit the down button which pulls the rod up and without fail, every single time, there is nothing but an empty hook on the end.
Uh...you need to wait for the fish to bite the bait.....

At the beginning of the game you don't have bait as far as I know and I don't mean when the bobber sets, I mean when the bobber gets pulled down into the water by a fish. Last night I tried to do it with all manner of key bindings for tilt, shift, and swing on both the wii remote and the nunchuck controller. Still had no luck. Actually, I wonder where the save game files are kept and if it is possible if someone could provide me with a savegame file that is right after getting this blasted fish! Maybe, please!?

Yeah, I meant the bobber, sorry. The bobber does down the start anyway. Wait for it to start rocking, and then press and hold whatever key you have set for the backward swing of the Wiimote.
You can get a bait at the start. There's a honeycomb above the shop in the village. Hit it with a hawk(call it by the grass by climbing an ivy and jump a platform) and it will fall down. Climb up and then put the larva in the comb on the bait.
