You know, you can do some serious editing with the GIMP, and there are plenty of tutorials out there to mimic "Photoshopping" an image to look real. It's all just pixel manipulation. About video recorders, most of them suck on Linux. Having said that, ffmpeg blows anything else on Linux out of the water, at least that's what I've found. You can record both audio and video from your soundcard and from x11 respectively, then output it in any number of options.

Many people have proven that Dolphin performance on OpenGL was slower for Windows users in comparison to Direct3D9, generally for most games. But there's some speculation that OpenGL on Linux may be as fast as Direct3D on Windows for Dolphin. Hardware drivers probably plays some part in this. We don't have a lot of dual-booters to test this, and I really don't have an interest in installing Windows atm.

It'll definitely get more accurate, if that's what you mean by "better". It'll probably also get more demanding on your hardware. But there are small speed-ups being doing occasionally, not enough to work miracles however.
