Wii System menu download fail

The Nintendo server where the system data is downloaded from is broken / unreachable since a couple weeks. Nintendo claims they're just doing maintenance so it might come back in the future. 
In the meantime I believe you can also install the software from a Wii game image assuming the UPDATE partition is included in the image.
