I am quite pleased with the new version of Dolphin and I will write a short review about my experience with SMG (got 25 stars atm)
I must say that the game runs great at 60 FPS with music working and almost no tearing using nvidia adaptive vsync. There are few (very rare) short parts of certain levels where FPS drops to low 50 (FPS) but with minimal impact for the gameplay experience.
It took me a while to get the perfect combination between performance and graphic quality until I got the game to run (almost) flawless.
My specs: Intel core i5 2500k overclocked @ 4.7 GHz, memory 8GB DDR, Nvidia Geforce gtx660 2GB, Windows 7 X64 bit
Nvidia driver setings: set it for MAX Performance then set Vsync - Adaptive (Nividia Gtx 600 series only)
Windows power options: high performange
If you have a Full HD monitor - downscaling will improve FPS abit so change windows desktop resolution from default 1080p to 720p (If game resolution is less than monitor resolution - downscalling will occur)
My Dolphin settings:
-GENERAL
X Enable dual core
X enable Idle Skipping
Framelimit Auto
CPU emulator Engine JIT Recompiler
-AUDIO
X DSP LLE Recompiler (working music + grand star levels)
X DSP LLE on Thread (3-4 core processors)
Audio Backend XAudio2
-GRAPHICS
Direct3D9
Fullscreen Rezolution 1280x720
Aspect ratio Auto
X Use Fullscreen
X Scaled EFB Copy
Internal Rezolution Auto (window size))
AntiAliasing - none
AF 1x
-HACKS
x Ignore Format CHanges
EFB Copies - Texture
External Frame Buffer
x Disable
Other:
x Disable Per-Pixel Depth
x OpenMP Texture Decoder (speedup on 3 or 4 core CPU)
Advanced - every option unchecked
on Doplhin main window - right click on super mario galaxy / select proprieties
- Check Alternate Wiimote Timing (stop the original wiimote speaker sound improving FPS while collecting stars)
optional - for i5/i7 sandy/ivy bridge and future power CPUs - Check Accurate VBeam Emulation (less sound glitches but reduce your FPS pretty much on some high graphic areas !)
If theres even more patches / options that I didnt mention feel free to reply.
Thanx to all the Dophlin emu devs ! SMG finnaly works great
EDIT:
50 stars atm. - Game still running at constant 60 FPS trough 99% of the game content.
Game crashes more often if the desktop rezolution is set to 1080p. To fix it I had to play in 720p game + windows desktop rezolution - still crashing but at way longer intervals (after 1-2 h of playtime).
For the levels where you must swim - use JITIL experimental recompiler to prevent crashes (dolphin ver > 3.5 )
-edited Vbeam Emulation reduces FPS
-edited CPU running at 4.7 now
