So, I was trying to make some edits to New Super Mario Bros Wii. I got a development build of Dolphin, extracted the iso, made my edit in the files, and when I opened the main.dol file to boot it up, the game window would pop up for a second, then disappear. Curious, I tried to extract Wii Sports, and see if running it extracted would work. Unfortunately, it also would pop up for a second, then disappear. I asked around, and was told it was a bug with Dolphin and should say something here, so here I am.
Wii Sports & New Super Mario Bros Wii not working when opened extracted via main.dol

That's odd... I'm not sure what it could be caused by. Try turning on logging, then upload the log that you get when trying to launch the main.dol file.
Just to make sure, it works if you're running the game without extracting it, right? 08-19-2017, 01:52 AM

If you've set the logging level to Notice, you should set it to something lower like Warning so that more detailed information will be displayed.

Can you enable all log types and set the level to Info? There are likely other log messages you're not seeing.

Ok, so it's shutting down early in the boot process (CBoot::EmulatedBS2_Wii). Can you run Dolphin under a debugger and figure out what is returning false?

We've found an issue with Dolphin exporting invalid TMD files, which would lead to the exact problem that you describe. Download 5.0-5312 or newer and re-extract the TMD of the data partition using Extract System Data (or simply re-extract the whole disc), then it should work.
