To spin the can you have to use the tilt and swing functions on the wiimote pluggin mapped to a key. (i should add it to the first post.)
And about the flashlight; Please post your pc specs, rev and video pluggin you're using. Also a screenshot, cause that bug is new to me.

So how do these recorded buttons work, exactly?

I've got the game running perfectly, no graphical artifacts as long as I keep it in native resolution. Some black flickering otherwise.

But I can't seem to get these monsters off me, no matter what button I press or how patient I am.
So you press 3 when one's on your left shoulder.
4 when one's on your right.
1 when one's on your back.
And so on. But they just never seem to register. Occasionally one does and gives me hope- but then I keep trying for the next hour and none do. I can't get past the first nightmare like this, what am I doing wrong?

are you pressing the number pad buttons? if so, don't, only use the numbers above the main keypad.

As the first post says "...when grabbed by a monster press the corresponding key and wait 2-3 seconds if nothing happens press it again. (button mashing is useless and will doom you)".
So if you want to shake off a monster, press 3 for example and then wait a few seconds. He should finally react, just be patient.
It took me a while to figure it out myself, but finally got it working (the game was basically over by then though..).

As for tilting cans and stuff: Wiimote>Button Mapping>Tilt and Swing>Roll L/R>90 degrees (N and M buttons)

Jeez so much comments from ppl: blabla game runs good blabla, and so useless cuz u wont be able to compare with your own system.
Guys, the F*ck, it would be a great help if you would kindly post your f*cking specs, best just add it to your signature (so you dont have to repost or edit old posts, and it gets instantly applied to all old postings)... jeez seriously.
Cheers!

and what do you call what's on my signature?
Read the original post, the fps observations in the original post are obviously based on my specs, but most people get this game running good with at least a dual core at 2.6ghz. But use rev4727 because the recent revs are laggy and stuttery as hell in this game.

GEEEZZZZZ!
