Do I need to get a wirless sensor bar or could I just use the one attached to my Wii already?

Yep, you can use the original sensorbar. but note, the Wii have to be on if you want to use the sensorbar.

Yeah or you have to convert it to usb or a 7 volt supply. I found it best to just be the official wii wireless bar since it works on both and there is no need to plug it in to anything. I find other wireless bars to be junk.
