I just installed Dolphin and use standard settings. I compared all my settings screens with the configuration guide on Dolphin web site.

My hardware is an PowerBook ca 4 years old with SSD, much memory but a Intel card.

It probably the intel + mac they don't have very good drivers, if you can install windows I bet it would work.

Same on Windows 7 x64  - core i7-3770K - AMD HD7850
OpenGL or DirectX doesn't matter.

EDIT: FIXED.
You have to enable Graphics -> hacks - >External Frame Buffer

I keep trying to play, but mine just freezes.  Not the emulator itself, just the game I'm playing.  I've altered everything adjustable I could per various youtube videos on improving performance, to no end.  It freezes during the opening credits.  I've tried skipping frames, but that just made everything mad.  THe best I've gotten was Asynch with Ubersahders and compiling all shaders before game launch but that's only gotten me to the final frame of the opening credits before freezing.  No one else but me seems to have this specific issue.  Running on an Intel i5 processor (not the greatest sure, but it works for every other emulator I have with no problem and CPU tops out at 22% processing while game is running), 931 Gigs of standing memory, a NVIDIA GT 1660 graphics card, and Windows 10 x64.

Can anyone help?  The Sam and Max games are the only two that it does this with. Animal Crossing plays fine.

Did you verify that your game file is good? Right-click the game in Dolphin's game list > Properties > Verify Tab > Verify
