Question
I'm unable to get the Wii Remote speaker to work properly. I have it enabled, but all I get out of it is garbled noise (testing with the volume change menu).
I've tried all of the different options on the DSP config (HLE/LLE recompiler/LLE interpreter), as well as all of the different backends (XAudio2, DSound, OpenAL)
I'm using 4.0.2, but I've also tried some older builds I had.

I don't remember this being a problem, but it's been so long since I've used Dolphin I can't say for sure.
Should the Wii Remote speaker be working in 4.0.2?
Is there anything I should try to fix it? I've already resynced my Wii Remote to my PC.

Thanks

I just tested with another Wii Remote, and with the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack.
I still have the same issue.

I can't remember hearing anything other than garbled noise come out of a Wii remote. It's been a while since I've used an actual Wii, so I'm not sure if the console sounds any different than Dolphin. It could be interference from the computer. It could be that the sample rate of the Wii remote audio is too low ( that's how it's supposed to sound ). It could be that the tiny speaker in there just doesn't sound good. I almost always disable the speaker, but it would be nice if you could hear sounds coming through clearly. I hope someone here knows more about the issue.

It's horrible even on a Wii, so doesn't expect much from that thing. However, it is worse in Dolphin. No one knows why exactly, but the current guess that has the most chance of being right is that the desktop bluetooth doesn't have enough bandwidth for it. I always disable the wiimote speakers on my wii anyway, so it was one of the first things I did in Dolphin too.

The quality of a Wii Remote speaker is generally shitty, but that's not what I've got going on.
This is what it sounds like when I'm adjusting the speaker volume within the game.

Oh, I thought you were just looking to improve the sound quality, but that does sound broken. What does it do when you're playing a game? You might want to try the latest version and see if anything changes. Wii remote sounds work fine for me in 4.0-2101. The newer versions are supposed to be faster anyway. I hope you get it working.

I've tried the latest build, 4.0.2, 3.5, and an older build I had lying around.

In game it's the same. I've only got Skyward Sword ripped at the moment, and if I recall correctly the speaker is used when you hold the sword up to do the Skyward Strike thing. When I do that, I usually get nothing or a few pops of staticy noise.

I've tried all settings I can think of, 2 different Wii Remotes, and both the MS and Toshiba Bluetooth stacks. It's always the same.

I'm pretty sure this all worked fine when I last played Skyward Sword on 3.5 and the older build. Anything I can do to further troubleshoot? Dumping audio / logs, looking for anything in the console, etc.?

Some further info:
Swapped in a fresh pair of alkaline AAs and there was no difference. I normally use Eneloops, but wondered if the lower voltage (1.2) could have been causing it.
I noticed that if I repeatedly click the volume up and down icons in the controller menu to test, the sound from the Wii Remote speaker becomes significantly delayed and then the Wii Remote loses connection. If set the volume to the lowest setting, then rapidly click the + button to maximize the volume, the final few sounds come several seconds after I've finished clicking the + button, and then the Wii Remote loses connection, though the remote itself still has the single solid LED as if it were connected.

And I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling my Bluetooth drivers. I tried both the "newer" version from the end of 2012 and the older version from 2011. The last time I played was with r7719 back in January of 2012.

That's what I was referring to. That's normal behavior for Dolphin. Cutting out, pops, etc, all known problems. And no one knows how to fix it. Sorry.
