Thinking about buying a wii motion sensor plus, do I still have to use a sensorbar?

Read somewhere that the wiimote occasionally needs the sensorbar to recalibrate or has the newer revisions of dolphin taken care of that?

Yes, the sensorbar is a must-have if you use a real wiimote in games which need the pointing feature.

I may try it, but I'm afraid that's a feature that only new games (zelda = end 2011) can provide.

No... you need a sensorbar. If you don't want to purchase one, 'make' one yourself.
Improvise. All you need is something that emits enough IR light for the Wiimote to calibrate.
Things that work are candles and christmaslights, etc.
