Hey all! I was just playing a bit of Twilight Princess with a Dualshock 4 controller, and I started wondering about Skyward Sword. I've looked into it in the past, but the idea of playing it has pretty much been shot down since I don't have Bluetooth on my computer and even then, I don't own a Wii Motion Plus that's functioning.

So I was wondering. Does anyone think it'd be possible to have the motion control in the DS4 as the input for a Wii Motion Plus?

It's a pretty specific thing to add to dolphin, but I know a lot of people would be really happy if something like that was added. This is coming from a programmer who has no idea how emulation and hardware input works, though, so if it's a stupid idea then I'm sorry for bringing it up. But come on, it seems like if you could get the motion control input from a DS4 controller it'd be just a few steps to input it into the emulator as the Wii Motion Plus controls.

Heck, I don't know if this works, but could you do the same for a PlayStation Move controller? I know that both the move and DS4 controller have the light on them for positional tracking, but that's not really needed for the Motion Plus, which is just the an augment for the motion tracking as far as I know.

If there's already a way to do all this and I'm just missing it, please tell me haha. I'd love to be able to grab the DS4 controller and be able to play Skyward Sword

It's not impossible but it'll certainly require a lot of work, would come with a lot of caveats and AFAIK nobody is working on it. So, yeah, no.

Well, it was an idea. It was worth a shot

Just to make clear, my "no" was in relation of current Dolphin versions (they don't support what you're asking), not as "no, this wouldn't be implemented never, period" (I reread the posts and got that impression). Perhaps you could open an issue report in the bug tracker asking for it? Some day someone may pick your suggestion (due the open source nature of Dolphin, devs/contributors come and go randomly). While it may be technically possible to use DualShock 4 sensors, personally I would find that setup awkward to use, but PS Move seems like a good replacement if implemented. Give it a shot and see what happens...

tbh though, waving around a DS4 seems like it would be a bit uncomfortable given how much movement is needed for SS. (a ps move I can see working much better)

Both the DS4 and the move controller (yes, I actually bought those damned things when they released) require a direct line of sight to the playstation camera, as the light emitted from the controllers are how the motion controls work, so in order for playstation motion controls to work with dolphin, wouldn't you need a camera set specifically for playstation motion controls?

Not only does it come off as a lot of work, it also only serves to add native motion control capabilities for a very limited amount of controllers, none of which are the dedicated nintendo ones anyways.

Why not use one of the sticks on the DS4 controller for IR, or a mouse/mousepad?

AFAIK PS Move has its internal accelerometer/gyroscope, the circular colored light works somewhat like the sensor bar from Wii (but also to refine accel/gyro readings). In other words, for the sole purpose of emulating the Wii Remote (without IR, of course), the internal sensors of PS Move should be sufficient, I think...

Six Axis control only really works when it has an outside observation point to correct for errors and assist in tracking, hence why the move has a camera and why wii motion plus games need the sensor bar. A pure accelerometer/gyro system would be very inaccurate...
