Trying to get Prime 1 from the trilogy started on my setup (admittedly underpowered for this probably) and I can get through the Prime Trilogy launcher and Prime 1's opening cutscene with no problems. However, once the actual game starts I run into major graphical issues, with a flickering "Metroid Prime Loading" overlay on a corrupted HUD. The game runs half-decently (as I'd expect from my hardware), but is effectively unplayable since it's very difficult to see anything, and it is not fixed by going into menus. Here's a screenshot to demonstrate, from the exterior of the Space Pirate Freighter at the start of the game:

This issue does not seem to be documented on the Dolphin wiki page so I'm not sure what to do. This was observed on the development build 5.0-8299, by the way. Thanks in advance for your help.

Pretty much it´s because of the outdated GL implementation that Mac OS X has.

You would be better running Windows (you can use Boot Camp for that).
Rig 1: Windows 10 Home | AMD A6-1450 @ 600/1000/1400 MHz | AMD Radeon HD Graphics 8250 | 4GB RAM | HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11.

Rig 2: Windows 10 Pro | Intel Core i7-2640M @ 780/2800/3500 MHz | Intel HD 3000 Mobile | 8GB RAM | Dell Latitude 6320.

That would explain low performance, but not the major glitchiness we have going on here.

A small update to my issue - I tested the game on 5.0 and it seemed to work without any graphical issues like I reported above. It's also worth noting that on 5.0-8299, the graphics appear to present issues beforehand as well, which I did not fully realize before - immediately after starting Prime 1 (when Samus shoots her arm cannon), the screen turns blank purple on 5.0-8299 instead of showing the Metroid Prime Loading graphic in the bottom right as intended (which again, renders properly on 5.0). I assume these issues are somehow related, since they involve the Metroid Prime Loading graphic in either case.

Hi! I'm having some trouble using the Grapple Lasso. I set my mouse to make the nunchuk movements, so far it was 100%, until I got back to Bryyo: I wasn't able to get the Missile Expansion in the Imperial Hall, where the Grapple was needed, and now I have to pull a lever to disengage the locker in the Hall of Remembrance, so I'm stuck. So far I was able to do everything with the Grapple, lockers, enemies, etc.

Thank you.

So does anyone know what the story is with the huge performance impact on some of the effects in Prime 2? Particularly portal effects, like those on the dark/light world portals and when the Emperor Ing shoots its tendrils through portals. The former only causes slowdowns when in a busy room, but the latter is much more severe. I also notice similar slowdown during the effect for entering/exiting water. I believe they're called alpha effects?

Do the Metroid Prime games get framerate drops on console?

My memory was that they run at a rock solid 60 fps—but then, I can't explain what's happening in Dolphin. My framerate frequently dips into the 40's, but the game speed does not decrease. And in the titlebar, I can see the FPS go down while the VPS remains at 60.

This could be caused by having a heavy load on the GPU while having dual core activated.

I was having the same issue. Going into the game properties and enabling "Synchronize GPU thread" fixed it for me. The flickering, that is. I still have that purple screen where the loading image should be when starting the game.

Issues with purple screens can usually be solved by turning off Store XFB Copies to Texture Only.
