I had a problem as well with one of those forced scanning events. Combing the entire screen yielded nothing to scan. Pointing the Wiimote away just showed garbled graphics inside the visor. Pointing it back fixed it, but still, there was nothing to scan. I didn't really test this thoroughly to be honest, I just gave up in favor of Mafia II.
Game's buggy, using r6133 right now. Up to this point it's playable, but the cutscenes seem to be the biggest problem. And I haven't tested enough to see if I can even get past the point I mentioned. It's still fairly early in the game, sector 1 I believe, upon returning to the room where you got attacked by those 3 or 4 large pill-bug digger type monsters.
