Does anyone know why the game jumps down to ~70% speed, when choosing the cup you want to race in? Direct3D9 backend, 1x native resolution, 1x AA, no SSAA.

I noticed that in the menu screens of the game, it tends to slow down ~30% speed.
However it runs perfect in-game.

Is there a reason for it?
It seems that if it's only emulating the menu, that there's not that much load
for the computer to lag like that.
