I had lower frames with moving that went up full frame when i stopped, but only when the news ribbon were showing, and performance hit wasn't nearly so severe. Even more strange is that my Ivy is not overclocked. @domjam did you use save states?
no i never use save states. only proper game saves. i dunno whats up. iv had the same problem with this game since i tryd using it using 3.5. and the problem never went away. i will try disabling dual core and see if that fixes it.

I get awful framerate spikes in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles the Crystal Bearers (US version), and I was wondering if this is a CPU bottleneck or if it's a problem with the emulator itself. (I.E if a CPU upgrade would fix this)

My specs:
i3-4130 @ 3.4GHz
R9 270 @ 955MHz (not overclocked) 2GB GDDR5
8GB 1600MHz RAM
1TB HDD
Windows 8.1

I'm using the latest stable Dolphin build.
My Dolphin settings:
Enable Dual Core
Disabled Idle Skipping
Framelimit auto
JIT recompiler

DSP HLE emulation
DSPLLE on separate thread disabled
XAudio2

OpenGL
Fullscreen Resolution 1920X1080
Show FPS enabled
V-Sync disabled

3X native resolution
AA disabled
Anisotropic Filtering 1X
Scaled EFB Copy enabled
Disabled Fog

Skip EFB Access from CPU checked
Ignore Format Changes checked
EFB Copies: Texture
Texture Cache Accuracy: Slider all the way on "Fast"
External Frame Buffer disabled
Fast Depth Calculation Enabled
OpenMP Texture Decoder enabled
Cache Display Lists enabled

What I'd like someone (with a stronger CPU) to do is go to the first monster encounter (not the skydiving part) and tell me if your FPS dips during that mini-cutsene, and if so what the minimum FPS was during that mini-cutscene.

It fell to as low as 20 for me during the mini-cutscene with these settings. This sound playable, but in other areas of the game this FPS dip is way worse; this is just an area where you can easily tell how much a better system is doing without much room for player error (you can't move during a cutscene).

I've uploaded the "Title" folder from my Dolphin folder if someone would like to just jump straight to that part of the game instead of playing for an hour to get to it.
Look at the attachment on this thread.
The password to the archive is "dolphin" without the quotation marks.

Before you add this savefile to your Dolphin folder, make sure to backup your savefile (rename yours to "title2" for example) before copying it in if you don't want to lose your saves.

I'm pretty sure the majority of the slowdowns in this game (where it goes to 1fps) are caused by the shaders in the game, as they seem to be variable or something, dolphin has a hard time creating them all the time.
Try Ishiiruka's dolphin build with async shader compilation enabled, it will fix the stuttery slowdowns, but sometimes it will cause things to flash.

Just tried the latest dev version, no different. Are there any specific settings on the latest dev version that fix it?
I don't remember seeing any commits that completely fixed the shader cache issues, i saw one that might speed it up a little bit though.

Tried that, it just makes it run worse now.

that's why we don't suggest unofficial builds unless we have a specific reason.
