Well, one thing is for sure, that Retro used this font https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/linotype/neuland/. From Linotype.
The same one is used in Tropical Freeze also. Also don't say, it's not like a nintendo game (nintendo didn't make it actually and also had no say in the fonts, otherwise they would use the rare's ones). I can give you countless examples of "crappy" fonts in nintendo games for example this: But the thing is that it's not crappy. It's playful stone age like to appeal to kids. If you were a truly typeface lover, you would not say this font crappy or amateur, or that you prefer a blurred font. Because there's no typeface like that. Even comic sans. They hate it, because they use it wrong and not in comic strips. Neuland in Donkey kong has only one mission, to bring the jungle like style to the game. This is why retro chose it. They just changed the numbers to make them easily readable for smaller fonts, but completely out of place. And because they changed their main fonts, the change came to the easy readable big title fonts. Don't assume, that changing fonts is easy. You can't almost ever actually find the font used. So you have to adapt. Making the fonts is the most difficult part in a pack. You need to have pixel precision, otherwise the kerning of the original fonts will completely mess your new font. You need to make microchanges to height and width with a different final ratio and many more. And all these to test them every time. The actual problem here is that you act like you payed for the pack and tricked you for some reason. I really dont understand this attitude. I spent 3 month in making this in my little free time, don't act like that. You went into defense mode in the same post you said about fonts without even someone replying to you. All other people here are very nicely report and ask things. Just say 3 and 4 or all numbers from that font don't look so good maybe you can try another font for these? Do not insult the work done to justify why you want them changed. That's not an argument, it's bad attitude. And especially don't write the same things over and over here. I understood that you don't like it, don't force it. Anyway, I don't want to create a strange atmosphere. There's no need for that here. We came here to play our favorite old and new games with better image. Let's end it here. I will still look into this matter though. I'll try my best to find a similar style but with less weight and strangeness. And I would gladly try to do things better or add more things, if someone asks nicely. And of course, when I have free time

I don't have a bad attitude toward this mod at all. I apologize if you think I was saying the same thing over and over again. The word amateurish is an insult only if you somehow agree with the words. Those words are just an opinion among many opinions.
You are free to value your work as much as you would like as are others able to do so. I think a couple of the numbers look very strange. I would call those very small things amateurish, but it's really not a big deal because people are allowed to have their own opinions. Censoring opinion is not how art gets better. It's the exact opposite. If you can't take simple criticism then you might have a hard time in the mod business. I don't owe anything to you, and you don't owe anything to me. I never once acted like I paid for this mod. I can play this game just fine without a texture pack. Over at the Nexus Halk goes through much more criticism than this mod will ever face in a couple weeks with his Witcher 3 mod. People are free to donate if they want. I have. But even besides that he listens to criticism, even the stuff that is harsh, and values everyone's opinion no matter how they give it. For instance, he had been making changes to the roofing on Witcher 3, changing colors, but was having trouble with the LODs, and the whole thing was starting to look like crap in Novigrad. He faced a lot of criticism for it, but eventually changed things and improved them and made the colors back to the original ones. The mod benefited heavily from criticism. I can make a fair criticism, which I have done, and it's fine. If people are going to be triggered because someone made a critique for a very small part of a mod then that is on you. Seriously, get used to criticism in your life. It makes what you do better. We are talking about a SMALL FONT ISSUE LOL. The last two posts have brought out a bit of anger because they are not pointed in their criticism. You overlook all the praise I heaped on the mod. You take one single thing out that bothered me and make it out like that was the only thing I ever said about the mod. This pisses me off, because people are overreacting and trying to make me look ungrateful now. The font looks out of place to me. And for a texture pack it is not even close to the original, which is the goal of most packs. That doesn't mean this one has to stick with that rule. You can do whatever you want. But some of the numbers are barely legible. The 3 is barely even a 3. The 4 has a super thin slant that makes it look imbalanced. The 2 has a curl, though, it doesn't look bad IMO, just out of place with the original fonts. This is my opinion. I'm not unhappy with the mod. I don't dislike the mod. I am using the mod, AND I LIKE THE MOD! But if you compare the map numbers to the original game they are completely different and random looking, whereas all of the other numbers and letters are close to the actual game fonts and typefaces. The map numbers are the only one that do not match up at all. Retro Studios is a first party developer. They do whatever Nintendo tells them to do. The point made is that exotic flourishes in typeface are not something Nintendo does in their games very often if at all. Even with that "crappy" font you listed there the numbers are all clearly bold and direct looking. It's not a big deal. 02-13-2017, 08:09 AM
And going from that post, I do appreciate your work a lot. You have done a great job, which I have said multiple times before, with the pack you created. I said you should be proud of the pack you created. People need to chill the hell out.

Alright, lets not make this one of those pointless forum discussions.
In the end, no one except Khronikos wants the fonts to be changed it seems; it's CTCaer's pack and he said he'll have another look at them. Maybe he'll change them, maybe he won't.

He's said he is looking into it. If he does not change them I have no major problems. Trust me, I would say so if I thought it was outrageous enough to cause harm lol.
Going back to Halk's pack, which is increasingly amazing, when he was changing roofs in Novigrad, there were actually pertinent issues that needed to be discussed for the good of the mod. Had he continued doing pointless work and a oodles of LOD matching, Novigrad was changing to be something it was not intended by the designers, and it was looking really ramshackle with different colors everywhere too. In the end he fixed all the crashing and reverted the roofs to what mostly looks like Vanilla with some improvements. For that mod especially, it was important that people really voice their opinions. I in no way feel this mod is going down the wrong path in one area or anything like that lol. It's not a big deal at all like things in Witcher 3 were, I just asked in that particular instance it would be nice to follow the game more closely. But hey you know it's not my business in the end. 02-13-2017, 10:08 PM
Come on guys, there's no need to argue for this anymore.
Actually I found a font with similar corner cuts, that compliments the current font family used (neuland). I did some preliminary tests and sits very well with the new font, especially compared with original one. I'm considering adding these fonts to 20pt and 17pt fonts also. This will take some time, because I need to do it for 14-18 colors and 3 regions. Additionally, 1.4 will probably have HD system fonts (the ones you see in the warning when you use wii remote sideways). (The only problem with system fonts is that it also has small letters in addition to capital..)

Big difference.
Dds dxt5 is like JPEG around 80%. It has many artifacts. But you probably can't see them easily if you don't have 2 screenshots to compare. Dxt1 is far more worse. But they load quite fast because of hw acceleration. Around 2.4 times faster with dxt5 dds. More faster with dxt1. In the future dolphin will support hw acceleration for png also, so there will be no difference in load speed
