@shiblum: which game are you trying to play? If the game needs Motion Plus it won't work.
You can use an Emulated Motion Plus build (have a look here http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-emulated-motion-plus-unofficial?highlight=emulated+motion+plus ) but this is no more supported on the forum
