AFAIK, even the fastest android can only run Dolphin with FPS in the single digit, so why waste so much time and effort into the android port when all the time and effort could be put into the Windows build? At least a 4ghz+ Sandy Bridge system running windows x64 can run most games at full speed on Dolphin.
Why so much effort and development into the android port?

Because that's what the one person working on it wants to do.
Same reason i "waste" my time responding to dumb questions, really. 08-16-2013, 11:37 AM
If development continues, the Android port is going to run very well one day, but the development has to start somewhere. If someone doesn't start working on it, it will not exist.

@OP - You do realize that this situation is very similar to how Dolphin originally started off in its development (especially before it was open-sourced). Few systems could run Dolphin more than a few FPS, and game compatibility was hit or miss. This is strikingly similar to the position the Gekko emulator is in right now (no thanks to my lack of commits). If people don't spend any effort, things don't go anywhere. One of these days it'll run fine on Android devices (hopefully), but you have to lay the groundwork to actually realize that.
Additionally, the project is made of multiple members who essentially work on whatever area interests them. If Android development interests a member, there's nothing stopping him or her from pursuing that. Simply because you'll have no use for it, or it does not immediately provide you with any use does not necessarily mean it's a "waste of time". What was a waste of time was this response. Seriously, I did it again. This was only supposed to be three sentences max :/ 08-16-2013, 08:49 PM
C'mon, who wouldn't want to play GC and Wii games on their phones?
Dolphin was initially only used by PC users, hardcore PC users to boot, moving to a whole different platform will further bring access to a whole new set of people. The average person today will instead of buying a PC rather buy a portable handheld device.

You could have said the same thing about the Windows version 10 years ago. That wasn't a waste of time, was it?
Edit: Darn it. Shonumi said the same thing I did. Should have read the entire thread first. |
