is it because the dev version is unstable???

keeping it updated in the playstore is a pain in the ass and it's annoying to support 2 "versions" for Android. A sideloaded version and a playstore version.
Not to mention that the short period Dolphin were available on the Play Store in the past only served to get a lot of 1-star ratings and complaints about it being "super slow", "not working", "just crashes", "where to download games" and such even through it was clearly stated in the app description that most phones weren't powerful enough, that the app had alpha quality and that downloading games were illegal...

Well, we're talking about 3-4 years ago, things changed today, Android version has improved a lot, phones are more powerful. This kind of comments are everywhere, unfortunatelly not all people are smart enough for such things.

Given that pretty much all Android phones still have shitty GPU drivers and will throttle after some minutes due heat, I don't see how putting Dolphin on the Play Store again would be any different from the same situation of 3-4 years ago. And as Helios said, it would be another version to maintain and keep updated, and no one is willing to do so (after all, we can count on the fingers of a single hand the number of devs who care about the Android port at all)...

The best thing about the Play Store version was being able to give Sonicdvance money to help further his efforts into developing the android version further. If this was all that it provided then it was worth it even if it's only updated monthly. For many of us here our android devices were our first or only way to use dolphin and we wouldn't mind helping even if it's by paying for coffee to fuel android development. 01-26-2018, 03:05 AM
That dude was the dopest trip, although, not to optimistic about Dolphin on Android any old ways.

I'm fine with sideloading dolphin on my android device, but at least a way to auto-update from the app would be cool.
If devs are ok with that, when I'll have some free time I'll write a POC and send a PR on Github. |
