Hey, I have a lenovo y560 laptop that can play even the newest pc games at full graphics on a 1080p monitor at full speed (even on the highest graphics on Crysis 2). But for some reason, I am having trouble running dolphin games at playable conditions. For example, I have odd texture glitches in some games and the games slow down considerably at times. I tried following the performance tips at the dolphin support page and I also have gamebooster. Can you suggest setting configurations that will maximize my gaming experience please? Thanks a lot Big Grin

here are my comp stats:
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel® Core™ i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz
8 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 (Video RAM 4.0 GB) (Hardware T&L Yes) (Pixel Shader version 5.0) (Vertex Shader version 5.0)
free Hard Disk 335 GB

I have the same CPU and i think the problem is the low rate of Dual 1,6 GHz. Dolphin uses only two cores and 1,6 isnt that much.

At least REmake runs good and Zelda TP (without Anti-Aliasing it is acceptable). But more than 3 Ghz should solve your problems.

But it is an i7 core. It is much faster than a single core with 3Ghz. Is there any way to overclock it or something or use all 8 of my processors?

I am a PC noob, but i dont think, that the i7 is faster than a 3GHzDual-core-Prozessor at Dolphin. Even with the Boost-Function it only can raise until 2,5 or little more GHz. I wont overclock a notebook-CPU (it can destroy it and i dont even think you can overclock it) and i dont think there is a way you can use all 4 physical cores. But maybe other persons knew more about it than me.

In fact, with Dolphin the Q720 is just a Dual core 1,6 GHz-prozessor and 2x1,6 isnt 3,2; it remains at 1,6, what seems to be not good enough for highend-settings. Its sad, i have the same problem.

first of all, Dophin is an EMULATOR. comparing Dolphin to any PC game is inaccurate.

your i7 720 has 4 cores (4 physical cores), google it
you need a CPU that does MINIMUM 2.5GHz (even that is a little slow for most games)
as already stated, i5 and i7 can self overclock. how effective it is, i don't know
as already stated, Dolphin uses 2 cores, so you have 2 doing nothing

texture glitch: set EFB Copy "Enabled" and to "Texture", see of that helps
different games may have different settings, use the search button

I meant to write 8 threads, not cores. Anyways it sucks that an older and slower processor may be better at running dolphin than mine. But i guess you are right, each game requires different settings to run smoothly.

Desktops vs. laptops, that's why.

An older desktop cpu may still be significantly faster than a new laptop cpu thanks the lack of power consumption/heat/size restrictions. Your i7 720 is miles better than an older laptop cpu like a core 2 duo mobile but still not up to par with the last generation of desktop cpus. And dolphin requires a VERY powerful cpu.

I notice that my laptop's CPU Usage runs less than 30% when running dolphin and under 2 GB out of 8 GB RAM. Does this mean that dolphin isn't running at its full capabilities on my computer?

Nope. It just means your cpu has 8 threads and dolphin only has two main threads. If both threads are maxed out you would have a 25% cpu load. Since dolphin also does a small amount of work on other threads it should be a little higher than that. Dolphin also only needs about 600MB of memory (depends in the game).

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Just wish my other threads could have been put to their full use.
