Question
It might help some people and could make Dolphin look less bad to the average person who actually reads reviews.
Downloading Games is against the rules:
  • I'd rather not be banned, so I won't talk about downloading games

Because we can't do anything about very old play store reviews for back when Dolphin on Android was in a very very early state.

And even now Android devices kind of suck for Dolphin. It's not worth wasting effort repeating the same shit to people. Dolphin is published on the play store to deter GPL violating copycat builds that do nothing but add ads. Whether or not Dolphin is actually usable on Android is a different story and many of us don't really care. Android is kind of supported at best effort, although we do have a couple Android UI devs now which is nice at least.

I get that publishing the builds on the play store makes it look like Android is a first class OS that we support but it's kind of not.

If it doesn't show up your device is not supported. You probably have the shield tablet or portable. Which is not supported.

It doesn't show up if you use the store on the Shield TV even though it's supported.

Apparently we got past the "doesn't work on the Nexus Player" problem but still haven't gotten approved due to the app not supporting d-pad navigation fully. I haven't really understood which part of the app that would refer to.

With that said, it should be available for the Shield TV if you visit Google Play using a web browser on a PC rather than using the on-device store, because that doesn't require specific Android TV approval.

Yep, I'm on SHIELD TV too! But anyway, as it was an older release, I didn't really mind as I picked it up from the usual download page ^^

I heard it's because vibration was a permission. Idk if that should make any difference though.

Dolphin haven't gotten approved for the Android TV Play Store even before the Vibration permission was added, so I doubt that's the reason...

Vibration is set as an optional permission, so hopefully it shouldn't lead to any problems with devices that don't support vibration in themselves. (There was actually a brief period when it wasn't optional, which did make it impossible to install Dolphin on such devices, but that was last year.)
