Stupid question! (Well, maybe not, but this is something I've wondered for a long time)
Why can't you just make a perfect 1:1 copy of a disc and run it on real hardware, such as a Wii or a Gamecube? A game is just binary data, bits and bytes, 1's and 0's, so if you put the same sequence of 1s and 0s onto a burned disc to backup your games, how does the Wii or Gamecube know that it's a fake?
I've asked this question before (not on these boards) and the reply I got is "there is copy protection". I know there is copy protection, duh! I just don't understand how it works. If you make a perfect 1:1 copy then I don't know how the hardware can possibly know if it's playing the original disc or a backup.
