Heresy! VLC is king.

Should've probably said "music player" previously. For general media VLC is better indeed, but amarok is more comfortable when it comes to managing my music library Big Grin

Amarok was pretty cool when I tried it (until it broke) but that was years ago, it's probably much better now. I'll have to try it sometime.

Quote:Going to school almost requires Microsoft Office nowadays. You can try to get by with iWork or Libreoffice, but they don't have all of the features that Office has. Most of the documents I have to make for school don't Ned anything more than double spacing and center alignment, but a lot of the documents I have to read require a lot of the math stuff that Office has built in. It's pretty stupid in this day and age now that PDFs are basically a standard (albeit a crappy one), but none of my teachers at least are "savvy" enough to export to PDF.

While there are a number of windows only programs that I need for school/work microsoft office is not one of them. Openoffice and libreoffice may be shit compared to microsoft office but they still get the job done, for me at least.

Quote:Dunno, I really do not miss any Windows-exclusive applications anymore. I found suitable replacements for everything. And with "replacement" I don't mean some crappy tool trading 50% of the functionality for something that barely runs at all on my OS, but something that enables me to get the same job done without hindering my workflow compared to the Windows-exclusive application.

Good for you. I haven't been able to reach that point or anywhere close to it. I suppose it depends on what applications you use and what replacements are available for them. I haven't been able to find any dbms software that's as good as microsoft access.

Your teachers probably don't have the same weird formatting choices that mine do.

I tried to use OpenOffice for a while, and it was really great until it ran into symbols it couldn't identify (Å being one of them). It also can't deal with limit notation for my calculus class.

This should be pretty funny. We're all going to see pretty quickly by votes which OS people prefer. Is there really any doubt that Windows is going to be picked as the best OS by a large margin?

True, but I do wonder by how large a margin.

@SS - Well, my "Which hand do you use" thread had a few interesting results even though I knew many people were right-handed. Like you said, it'll be Windows, but what's interesting is the margins. We're lucky we can discuss this in a relatively mature manner. Other places would have a flame war going on. That's cause the Dolphin community rocks, obviously Wink
