Posts made by new users need to be approved by a moderator before they show up (due to some spambot problems we've had). Your thread didn't truly disappear, it just wasn't publicly visible yet.

Is there a certain amount of time I need to be a registered user, before comments appear automatically?

I believe the current threshold is 5 posts. After that, you automatically gain those permissions. You're at 6, so you should be fine. It's a measure we had to take to prevent spam.

It still says "Please note that new posts in this forum must be approved by a moderator before becoming visible." and my last post I just made didn't appear immediately after posting it.

Also, why can't I send any PM's? It says I don't have permission to write private messages.

Same reason, you need a higher post count.

We have significant spam issues without these restrictions on new users in place.

How many posts do I need to unlock normal posting? One of the admins above said 5, but I'm well over 5 posts by now. It seems that no matter what, I'm constantly being restricted to EVERY post I wirte going to the moderators before actually getting posted.
