That wouldn't happen if Dolphin used plugins. Just saying. I know that some Dolphin developers don't like plugins and I'm not saying what is better in all cases.

As far as I know all of the dolphin devs that mattered wanted plugins gone. Which is why it happened. It was a very praised set of revisions. Plugins promote redundancy.

You are technically correct though.

It has pros and cons. With plugins, no plugin features will ever lose as long as the host API doesn't change. And even if the API changes, usually it's not difficult to update the plugins to use the new API. Just for clarity, I just respond to NaturalViolence. I don't mean to debate what is better. Don't want to waste anyone's time.

Why would he care? And who are these people? Lots of people are going to bitch that they can't play game X on their less-than-fast hardware. They can use an old version. I don't see why it should become an issue or hinder progress.

Well, another fact that may led removing the plugins from Dolphin was that as far as I remember, from the period of time that Dolphin supported plugins, I never saw any 3rd party plugin designed for Dolphin (neither a WIP or alpha), only the default plugins already managed by the Dolphin team (that got merged to core nowadays)...

@xemnas

From what I remember the devs were complaining about all the work required to make the same change three times everytime they wanted to do anything. This slowed down progress as more work had to be done to implement new things. Debugging was also more difficult because often times mistakes were made in one backend that weren't copied into the others. With everything sharing one common set of code when something breaks it's easier to find the faulty code. These were the reasons I remember them giving for changing the interface.

I agree. But clearly it got to him. We saw him blow up on them at least a few times here on the forums. I don't frequent googlecode. I only occasionally check it for new commits and to check if an issue has already been reported. I never read through the comments on issues or commits anymore. But from what I hear things were much much worse over their.

Apart from NV being incorrect about the reason why delroth left (it's not only that users complained too much to him, but I'm tired of repeating this over and over again, look it up yourself), this thread has gone off-topic enough already. Move it to PM or open another thread about it.
