It has to be a amd cpu using am3 or am3+ it also has to be at least a quad core, just something I want to take into account when upgrading as my current Phenom 2 x4 910 (2.6ghz) just doesnt cut it even for just regular gaming let alone dolphin at full speed in most games. I am most likely going to overclock the thing, something I was not able to do with my current cpu so what would I need to get the job done.

I think, he means Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, Metroid Prime1+2+3, TLoZ: Twilight Princess, TLoZ: Skyward Sword and so on. just the heavy games Big Grin

Well, this games need a good, overclocked CPU to run @ fullspeed.

no these games need sandy/ivy bridge...

please define 3D Games
every amd phenom ii black edition overclocked to max safe temps is your choice... (or bulldozer can reach higher clocks than phenom and is sometime cheaper)
but first look into your mobo manual if supported
i don't understand the purpose of this thread...

ivy>sandy>first i-serie intel>Core 2 Quad>phenomII black>bulldozer
(for emulation)

first of all I know my mobo supports bulldozer which is one of the reason why I am staying amd, I just want to know what is best with dolphin bulldozer, the thuban phenom 2's (the hexacores and the quad core unlocking to a hexacore sometimes) or just the older phenom 2's. Really if amd really has nothing that cuts it for dolphin I will always have the wii itself.

and with 3d games I mean anything that really stresses the cpu zelda, metroid, monster hunter games like that

Bulldozer is slower than phenom II for dolphin. And upgrading to a higher end phenom II isn't going to give you that much of a performance boost. You might be able to get a 40% increase over what you have now (in cpu performance, not in gamespeed) if you overclock a high end phenom II. Phenom II X4 and X6 will give you the same performance since dolphin only uses 2 cores anyways.

The only way to run the heavier games well is with an overclocked sandy bridge cpu. I'm sorry but AMDs current offerings are terrible for single/dual/triple/quad thread performance.
