the chip is most likely never damaged.
voltage regulators or stuff like that, without overheating protection, thats what matters. The gpu itself will just turn off.
also 100°+ is not that hard for this kind of chip. maybe reduces lifetime from 20 years to 10, well who cares.
my first gpu didn't even had a passive cooling and probably was above 100° even in idle.
Still it lives since 1996.
