Gentlemen,

I am in a predicament.

Underneath this callous PC gamer skin there is a boy who grew up on Nintendo consoles.
It wasn't until this last week that I really took a look at skyward sword and it melted my heart.

I am smitten.

I have used Dolphin for a long time now, but only for Game Cube games. I completely skipped over the Wii, but every so often I would see a game that I wanted to play, but just kind of blew it off. I am in the same situation with Skyward Sword....but this is a game I know I can't blow off...I must play it.

Now, I have to options here:

I can buy a new Wii, component cables, and Skyward sword.

or

I can buy the Skyward Sword special edition, nunchuk, sensor bar, and Bluetooth USB adapter.

I prefer the second option, as not only would it save me some money, but I could then play the game in higher resolutions.

My only hesitation, is that there isn't a clear answer on if Motion plus works with the dolphin...well...I take that back...there is...and there is not.

I searched the forums and Google for an answer first ( I don't want to be "That guy."), and it seems that Classic wiimote + Motion plus add on works fine. wiimote plus works..mostly.

But what I have been seeing is using a nunchuck with in combination of the wiimote plus is a no go. Is this true?

Either way, what should I do? Should I just buy a wii or run the emulator?

Personally, I would go for the Wii option. But then again, the Wii is going to get replaced by the WiiU next year...
The game is pretty hard to emulate (atleast, the DEMO is), so you need TOUGH hardware to play it acceptable.
There are some Dolphins who tried the Demo out and reported how it runs and if the motionplus etc work with it. Read it here. It's locked now though.

State your specs, and we can see if you even have that 2nd option.

I don't foresee any issues running the emulator

Win 7 64
3.9 Ghz hexa-core processor
24 GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA 480 GTX
NVIDIA Quadro 4000

That thread you posted was very interesting...I do have a question..EFB? You can copy the game to run off the RAM? Is it a speed thing?
Because my system does run off of a SSD- not sure if that would have the same benefit.

And you are right, with the Wii U coming out next year I am pretty hesitant to get Wii- plus it will be BC with Wii Games...but I don't want to wait that long
to play Skyward sword Q_Q

Then I want to ask you a question, are you in possession of an special DVD drive that is capable of reading/ripping Wii games?

Any of these?

Hitachi LG GDR-8161b (IDE)
Hitachi LG GDR-8162b (IDE)
Hitachi LG GDR-8163b (IDE)
Hitachi LG GDR-8164b (IDE)
Hitachi LG GDR-H10NBLK (SATA)

There might be other brands and models to that is capable of this.

If not then the only solution would be option number 1, buying the Wii, install Homebrew channel along with Cleanrip or Wiiflow and dump the game with the Wii.
Also if you have an high-end PC, you could also dump the necessary files needed to use DSP LLE for better sound quality and to solve other problems.

Unfortunately I do not have any of those drives. Compared to the rest of my system, I actually have a fairly cheapish DVD drive-:
LITE-ON iHAS224-06 (sata)

If need be, I could probably just order a new compatible DVD drive if mine isn't capable or reading the wii game.
It would probably still be cheaper than buying a new wii (Would be around $220 US without tax vs $125 for game + wiimote/nunchuk/sensor bar/bluetooth)

Cali, if I were you I'd wait a few days after Skyward Sword gets released before buying the whole thing. So that people can test it and you can see how well it
runs and if the motion controls work as it should. The drive + game and accessories is definitely cheaper than getting a Wii.

Your rig looks fine, (still missing the exact CPU model though Tongue).
But if you really can't wait, get the 2nd option(+drive).
Just don't expect to run everything flawlessly Tongue

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize you wanted specifics- in this case its a Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition (Sandy Bridge)

But, you are right, I should wait to see how this things ends up emulating before making a mad dash to the store to buy everything (I'm just so damn excited!)

Thank you for the good advice and for the help! And thanks for reading!

Yep I think it would be cheaper.
But I would have taken the the first option anyway, just so I could dump the DSP LLE files also.
Plus then you got both the Wii and the Emulator and in case the emulator have problems with the game it would be nice having something to fall back on.

Fixed that for you. The i7 990x is not a sandy bridge cpu.
