Id recommend going with an g3258/r7 250x build. The build can go for 330 bucks if you shop smart.

If you want "Like a real GameCube", then that means 1x internal resolution (IR), no graphical enhancements at all, and it'll generally look awful. If you're okay with that, pretty much any modern intel processor graphics.

However, Almost any low end nvidia or AMD GPU will let you play at 3-4x (1080p) with zero slow down. It's very nice. That build that Piccolo linked will run everything at full speed, at pretty much any IR up to a little over 1080p, with lots of graphical enhancements enabled.

Like a real gamecube?  I hope you're not expecting games to run perfectly.  Dolphin is not a perfect emulator...it's good, but it's not perfect.  Therefore, a lot games will sometimes stutter no matter what CPU and GPU you throw at it.  These brief slowdowns are common in some games and uncommon in others.  Asides from that, many games still have graphic or sound issues.  Don't get me wrong, the games are still very playable and still enjoyable...but if you're expecting perfection, you'll be disappointed.

Hi all!

Considering mine's a similar question, I thought I would simply add my question here rather than make another thread.
My current config is as follows -
CPU - Core 2 Duo e4500 2.2Ghz
Motherboard - Gigabyte G41M-ES2L
Ram - Corsair 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz
Gfx Card - Nvidia 8800gt 512mb
HDD - 1TB 7200rpm, 320GB 7200rpm
OS- Win 7 32bit(will be resintalling to 64bit), Linux Mint 17.1 Mate 64 bit

I am thinking of upgrading the CPU to either an core2duo e8300 or a Q8400. I would like to play a few games on Dolphin at 1024x768, particularly viewtiful joe and metal gear solid. Which CPU would be the better buy in this case? Would it be possible to run some Wii games too on this config?

Thanks!

Both CPUs are pretty weak for Dolphin, and they're both quite old (2009). You'll want to upgrade your whole config: CPU (to Haswell/Skylake), motherboard, memory (DDR3/DDR4) and GPU (a low-end GPU should be enough for <2xIR).

That's some dated hardware take my advice you would most importantly need CPU and a better GPU because that's very dated hardware and after the hardware upgrade but it stutters you can check custom verisons of dolphin out there to suit your needs I know there is a great one called Ishiiruka its for slower pcs but you still need the upgrade for it so if you upgrade congratz
