I was backing up some save files and just saw this, what is it and does it need to be backed up?

Thanks.

I would usually backup the whole Wii folder, there isn't much space to save by ommiting some small 1kB files...

TMDs are metadata files for the Wii Menu to access your saves. While they will just get regenerated, if you tried putting in the save without having a tmd, the save could probably get overwritten by an empty save.

TMDs also allow you to boot channels installed in your NAND dump by opening them in Dolphin...
