So out of curiosity, I was looking up  how many pixels were in the original Legend of Zelda map, and it turns out that it is 4096x1408 and it got me to thinking, now that we have TV's that can handle that kind of size, what if you could play the game with the entire map loaded on screen at once?

I think it would be badass! Looking at the image on my 4k screen, id say it would be completely playable!

OH I didn't even think of that. o.o They'd probably only be a few pixels big......that would be funny to see. XD

I personally think it would ruin the feel of the game a bit. The world is just much smaller if you can see all of it at once, and most of the exploration aspect is gone as you can see exactly where you need to go and what the shortest path is.

Sure, the game shipped with the map in the manual IIRC, but I don't think players were expected to have it in front of their eyes all the time while playing - it was more of a reference, and adventurer's map if you will, than a satellite view of the entire world in real time.

Also you'd only have enemies active on your current square which would be weird, unless you made some major modifications to the game.

TVs only go up to 3840 width so we don't QUITE have enough resolution to do that with a TV. Projectors however can hit 4,096 with DCI projectors. They're still quite pricey though (typically $10,000+). Even if you had a 120" projector screen and sat very close enemies, projectiles, and link would all be way too small at that resolution for you to tell wtf is going on. A 2 pixel projectile on such a setup would look like a spec of dust moving across your screen.

You make the weirdest threads I have ever seen (at least on this forum).

Nah I make weird threads everywhere. XD
I have kind of a pothead mentality when it comes to ideas that pop into my head.

Though in my defense, I make most of my posts when I get off of work early in the morning, and lack of sleep can lead to to shit posting.

Which reminds me I forgot to reply to you about my resume. >.<
Off topic, but I got offered a promotion....so I kinda caved and stayed for the time being.
Also got a 4 day vacation, which will sadly end tomorrow. :'/

Yeah the projectile argument ruins it.The only way I think it could work is if you had it normal sized in real time on a secondary screen like a wiiu gamepad or something, and used the full map for navigation/coolfactor only.

If you cut the map into 4 parts it could be playable on 1080p setups.
From France with love.

Oh wait that would actually work amazingly well on a WiiU. Even downscaled to 1080p, displaying the whole map on the main screen would be pretty great, while the controller could display a zoomed-in view of your current cell.

Homebrew when?

As long as you're happy.

Probably not though. EVERYONE hates retail work.

Yeah it is horrible. -.- They even increased the amount of paper work we had to do over night. Spending a solid 2 hours a night on just paper work now. Im still looking for a way to move up in the world but I figure I should ride it out and hone what skills I have. I really wouldn't mind learning more about game design. Branch away from textures and try something new like building models and environments in urea engine and maybe one day make a game or something.
