Microsoft's Windows 10 anniversary update came out august 2nd. I was wondering if anyone installed it yet. Is it really any different from the November update? did you have any problems during install or after install? and does anyone like the new features? Oh yes, and did it fix any issues you were previous having beforehand?

I've got it, I've noticed some new things (looks), but nothing else so far (probably some background stuff I haven't noticed). Also it tried (and failed!) to eat my CPU with error reporting so I had to force close it.

I want to keep everything as clean as possible . So I disabled it right away after a clean install . Windows Updates only make Windows boot slower and add more problematic
No Anti Virus (except the default Windows defender) + No Update = Maximum Performance . Or at least , this is what I think

Edit : I also disabled Microsoft (outlook/hotmail)account , Onedrive bullshit . I use local account instead and force Microsoft Edge back to IE by deleting the entire folder

Didn't get the update from Windows Update so I tried to install it manually. And guess what. It failed. I'll do a clean install of it sometime this week anyway. I want dat Bash.

I just installed it myself (download was about 2 hours because I have a horrible download speed (3mbps down 1mbps up), and then the hour and a half to install). It was worth it in my opinion. The new look is great, it fixed some issues I was having before (I think the November update was partially corrupted on my computer when it was installed, because no more occasional flashing screen). Also the lock screen slideshow works properly now. Lastly, is it just me or did it increase my computers performance I feel like some programs are running faster now (maybe even dolphin).

Some reports point out that the update sometimes deletes other partitions like Linux. Now I fear to loose my Mac partition if I do the update on my BootCamp.
From France with love.

If you've got the fast boot setting on (the Windows one, not the identically-named UEFI one) then Windows leaves the hard drive in an unsafe state when it shuts down. Usually, this doesn't cause any problems, except you'd struggle to mount the Windows partition to another OS install. However, when installing Windows (don't forget that these threshold updates, such as the 1511 build and the new 1607 Anniversary build, are basically installed like a new OS), it really doesn't like the drive to be set in this state, so to avoid problems, it removes any partitions that aren't the actual Windows install from the boot drive. This can involve unregistering any other OS installs or overwriting the MBR.

There are a couple of solutions:
  • Turn off the setting before installing the update. (Recommended)
  • Install the update without checking like some kind of numpty, and then use one of the many drive recovery tools available on a linux USB stick to find and re-enable any missing partitions, before finally repairing GRUB (or whatever other bootloader is gone) and everything should be fine again. (Not recommended)
OS: Windows 10 64 bit Professional
CPU: Intel i5 4670K @3.4GHz... for now @4.6GHz with a quick and dirty (yet stable) OC. May get faster in a bit before the end of time.
RAM: 16GB (Down from 24 GB after some was given to siblings)
GPU: Radeon Vega 56
