Hello Wii Friends,

I searched the web for a good Wii emulator and found this one. I've already browsed the start page, the wiki and some forum threads, but I want to be sure, so I thought that a new thread could help me a bit.

You can see my PC specs in my profile. I'm owner of a Nintendo Gamecube and a friend of mine has a lot of wii games. We want to play those games in 1080p on my pc. What do we need (I don't have a Nintendo Wii)?

- I'm going to buy a Hama bluetooth dongle for about 5€
- I need some controllers with Nunchuck and Motion Plus, but 160€ for all the controllers is a lot of money. What about them? http://www.ebay.de/itm/2IN1-MOTIONPLUS-MOTION-PLUS-REMOTE-WIIMOTE-CONTROLLER-NUNCHUK-NUNCHUCK-WII-Weis-/251001609699?pt=PC_Viedeospielzubeh%C3%B6r&hash=item3a70dc9de3

Or do you know some good inofficial controllers with Nunchuck an Motion Plus for cheap (with a good compatibility)?

We want to play games like Mario Galaxy, Mario Party, new Zelda, Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros etc.

- Then I need a Sensor Bar, right? Where do I get one of those? As I said, I don't own a Nintendo Wii, so I need a wired one, right?

Do I need anything else? It would be awesome if you can help me. I already tried the new Zelda with Dolphin... It worked fine so far, I can't test it because the neccecary hardware is still missing.

Excuse my bad english, I hope you understand my issues Smile

Best Regards
Baumlol

You need:

Your PC

Dolphin

A wii to dump games from

Some way to put the homebrew channel on the wii

An SD card, formatted to FAT 32 with cleanrip on

A USB storage device or SD card to dump games to. A whole wii game needs more than four Gigabytes, but a Gamecube game uses less, so you could dump GameCube games to the first SD card if it is a 4GB one. If it is a USB drive it is probably simpler to have it NTFS so you don't have to put the dump together afterwards. If it is SD then you are stuck with FAT

A wireless wii bar or a USB converted wired one.

Bluetooth

WiiMotes

any other extensions such as nunchucks.

There are other threads with more details of how to do all of the hard stuff such as putting the homebrew channel on a Wii, dumping games, converting a wii bar to USB and connecting Wiimotes to Bluetooth if they don't work first time. If you struggle binding the component ISOs of Wii dumps to FAT drives then type me in in the search box, as there are some relevant threads which I have contributed to.

Why do I need a Wii? I've connected my PC via HDMI with my TV, so I can stream the video data to my TV. Isn't it possible to play just with the .iso files and the emulator? I don't understand why I need a Wii, a SD Card and the homebrew channel. My friend already ripped his Wii discs to the PC as .iso files. But thanks for your reply!

You asked what you needed, so he told you what you needed. Had you mentioned that you had the game files all ready, he wouldn't have had to mention that. Remember, we're not in your house or in your head, all we have to go on is your posts. Confused

Thanks Starscream.

Anyway, if you already have the games ripped you don't need the Wii. I just wanted to make sure you were ripping the games legally, because if I hadn't mentioned ripping them yourself you may have assumed that you could get them off the web legally if you own the original disk (which technically you can't, which is a stupid law) or have decided that you could run the disks by putting them in your DVD or CD drive, which in theory you can, but there are only a few models of DVD drive which can actually read Wii disks.

You're right, sorry, it was just a sympathetic question. Can someone say something about the wiimote I mentioned (eBay link) above? Or can anyone recommend a good wiimote with high compatibility and low price? Which kind of sensor bar do I need? I want to play on my TV (I connected it with my PC via HDMI). So I should place the bar in front of the TV, right?

E: AnyOldName3: Yeah, thanks for the info! It was not meant any harm Sad

In theory those Wiimotes should work, but I cannot guarantee anything. Surely if your friend has a wii already then you can get him to bring his wiimote round when you want him as a second player, so then you only need to buy one, which should save you enough to get a genuine one which will definitely work.

Yes, you're right anyway. But one thing is still unclear. How do I connect the sensor bar with my PC? I thought the sensor bar is a kind of receiver for Wiimotes? What type of sensor bar do I need? The data must somehow get to my PC, so is really only USB in question, right? However, I find no sensor bar with a USB cable.

The sensor bar is just a stick with 6 or 10 IR LEDs inside and there is is an IR camera in the end of the wiimote which sees the groups of 3 or 5 at each end as two points and from that it can calculate distance from the bar, rotation relative to the bar and what angle the bar is at relative to itself.

So basically all you need to give the bar is 7.5 to 12V (the power of the output on the back of the Wii) unless you change the resistors for weaker ones so you can run it off 5V from a USB 2.0 lead. Often wireless bars eat batteries really quickly, so these are sometimes converted to run off USB, and usually the resistors don't need to be changed, as a four battery wireless bar needs about 6V, which is fairly close to 5V from USB.

Hi Baumlol,

I purchased another unofficial MotionPlus WiiMote/Nunchuck from MiniInTheBox, Feb. 15th.

Tested on Dolphin using Super Mario Galaxy 1, 2 & Zelda: Skyward Sword ( which requires the motion+ add-on ). Works perfect.

Wasn't bought via your eBay link but it's the same price after currency conversion and it has the same features ( MotionPlus is integrated into the controller base ) and it has the "NEW 2in1" and "Motion plus" printed on the remote in the same places.

They're probably same generic build, made in China.

Don't know how to answer your question about the IR bar.

In my case I have the "IR" feature mapped to the mouse movements. The WiiMote configuration is set to "Hybrid" in Dolphin so it uses both the WiiMote and mouse simultaneously.

Try this thread for another IR solution. You'll need to buy one or use some other DIY alternative.

Because of this you can even use 2 candles as an infrared light source. You can't use the wired sensor bar that comes with a wii on your pc as you need to plug that into a special port on the wii for it to work, so you can either use a wireless sensor bar or a usb sensor bar [...]

There's a lot of different models/options so shop around.
