Some companies care more about how much their PSUs cost and some care more about quality. Regardless of where the actual unit comes from.

Please tell us what these "PSU experts" have said about this PSU (don't forget to quote a source). I for one am curious to know.

It's on this page. (I'd appreciate if you didn't rewind to earlier in that thread, that was the thread that made me actually take a look at the ATX specification, and I'm quite embarrassed that I asked that question)

Not much was said, but I took a snoop about on the 500B, and jonnyguru, one of few sources for non-bullshitted PSU reviews, said that one to be mediocre, at best. The fact that this one is cheaper, well, the only place you're going if you're going below "mediocre at best" is "not even mediocre" and "bad".

Really, if you're going to choose a PSU, something that I've seen said millions of times is "If jonnyguru doesn't approve it, don't buy it".

If someone states that they don't know anything about X brand then that pretty much says right there that nothing they say about that brand carries any weight. If it's a well known brand then that makes them even less trustworthy.

Who is jonnyguru and where can I find his review of the product recommended by admin? If you're going to state that a review of a different product from the same company can be used to evaluate this product then that invalidates what you said earlier about "brand doesn't mean shit with power supplies". And why didn't you use that as a source instead of some random guy stating that he's never even heard of EVGA PSUs?

In all honesty, I find EVGA to be extremely reliable. Now, let's be honest here.. If you're looking in to buying anything, the reviews up on Newegg/Amazon/Tigerdirect and even forums should ALL be taken in to account. Not to mention, there will always be at least one negative review. Sometimes it's bad luck, other times it's strictly fanboy speak. Now, there are times where negative reviews are consistent and should be taken to heart.

My thing though? It's EVGA and anything I've bought from them have performed adequately enough for me to recommend them.

Yeah, but you can´t expect that just because it worked pretty good for you; it will do the same with other people.

No, and you're right. That's what I'm saying, though. There are plenty of reviews on the PSU in question and majority of them are positive. It isn't justified when one of the "I don't trust it" comments are due to someone being ignorant of the brand out there.

Just read the review kinkinkijkin was referring to: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=351

It doesn't really seem negative at all.... He scored it high, wrote a positive summary, the pros and cons show must of the cons either being negligible or not related to build quality, and the testing results are good.

And there are countless other positive reviews of them out there from professional sources.

You didn't even read anything on that page, at all. Try and be right again once you've actually read a bit. (note: it's not hypocrisy if it's calling someone's hypocrisy)

Did you read the review? The guy states multiple times that it's mediocre, and at one point, mentions that the 12V rail (the most important one in modern PCs) is hardly more than "average".

Dunno what you´re getting that from, kin; but it´s a good score indeed. NV is right, after all.

After the summary, there are more good things than bad and mediocre ones; all sumed up.

Jonnyguru Wrote:What isn't so pretty is the fact that the 12V rail did worse this time out, coming in at 2.3%. Even so, that's still above the line dividing average from very good, so we'll take that number gladly. The average this time is 1.7%, which is still very good, thanks in no small part to the 5V rail's awesome performance.
Jonnyguru Wrote:The 12V rail does not share that kind of awesomeness, however, and is just holding around 65mV. Too far from the 50mV mark to let me call it very good, and too close to the 75mV mark I call merely average. But with the spec being 120mV on that rail, this still isn't bad by any means. Just... on the good side of average.

Doesn't look bad to me.....

Where was I hypocritical?

Sorry, confusing a few people on these forums with that one. Never mind it.

EDIT: Still, the PSU admin89 linked is a REALLY cheap PSU. I'd never buy a cheap PSU, especially after what happened to my last two power supplies. If you're going to throw in a power supply, throw in something more reliable, like the less cheap 500B, or possibly a Capstone, even though the Capstone PSUs are gold PSUs and henceforth a little pricey.
